It’s been a real treat for fans of Colleen Zenk to see her back in daytime on The Young and the Restless after watching her for over 30 years on As the World Turns as Barbara Ryan. However, there are always going to be negative comments when someone new comes to a soap, whether they are a daytime vet or not.
In a recent interview with Soap Opera Digest, in talking about a particular scene, Zenk addressed some of those comments… One of her most memorable scenes so far was when the camera panned to Jordan’s face while hiding behind the furnace grate at the lake house. The actress explained that they had shot it several times in order to get that exact shot — “the exact eyeball in the right area” — and how fun it was to film.
“I want Jordan to be as theatrical as she can be and that plays against the steeliness of the Newmans,” she shared. “It’s a huge contrast to them. I know that a lot of fans have said I’m overacting. No, I’m not. It’s a character choice.”
In regards to those fans who have missed her, Zenk was in awe that they still remembered her after having been off the daytime canvas for 13 years and stated, “I did not anticipate this tidal wave of response from the fans. It’s really been something and I can’t thank them enough.” And if you’re wondering if she’s getting recognized as Jordan, and not just Barbara, she revealed, “I’m not because I’m usually in a baseball hat, but I was in Utah for Thanksgiving with a friend and I got recognized all over the place. It was crazy but really nice.”
