Tyson Fury’s wife Paris says she ‘wanted to leave’ him during depression battle

Tyson Fury’s wife Paris admitted she ‘wanted to leave’ him at one point during his battle against depression, drink and drugs.

Fury is on top of the world after defeating Deontay Wilder last weekend to become WBC champion for a second time.

Having won the WBC world title from Wilder, Fury is now hoping to fight fellow Brit Anthony Joshua , who holds the other four heavyweight belts, in a hotly anticipated unification bout.

It is a far cry from the dark days when his mental health problems were at their worst, with the 31-year-old boxing star having previously opened up about how he wanted to commit suicide.

Fury battled drink and drug addiction, and his weight ballooned to 28st at one stage.

And now Paris has revealed how things got so bad she wanted to leave.

In an exclusive interview following Fury’s stunning victory in Las Vegas, Paris said her husband’s demons were still there but he was now doing “incredibly well”.

“You still see it,” she said. “He’s had this amazing high, winning the world title in Las Vegas. Then he’s coming home on the school run.

“You can see why a lot of celebrities and sports stars suffer depression. You have all the glitz and glamour, but then you go back to being normal.

“Tyson can’t go out without someone wanting to take his photo. He can’t understand why? He doesn’t understand that if someone is a fan then they get excited when they see him.

“He’s trying to balance being a sportsman, a husband and a dad, with being a superstar.

“But he is managing a lot better now. The worst was in around 2015-16, every day he was talking about his misery and his problems.

“He was drinking heavily and he was taking drugs, which I didn’t know about at the time. And he was obese. It was a hard time to deal with him especially as I was expecting three times in a row.

“At one stage I wanted to leave.

“In the end he sought help, he got diagnosed and he has come out of it much better.”
