While Constantine 2 is seemingly still in development at Warner Bros, the Elseworlds-based sequel will not feature the film’s first villain.
Constantine 2 gets a disappointing update from the actor who played the villain in the first DC installment. As James Gunn’s DC Universe franchise is in the works, DC Studios is also looking to continue their Elseworlds branch with stories set outside the main continuity. One of them is Constantine 2, serving as a sequel to the 2005 movie after almost two decades.
In a recent interview with Inverse, Tilda Swinton was asked if she would be reprising the role of Gabriel from the first Constantine movie in Constantine 2. Sadly, her Constantine 2 update didn’t come with good news as it doesn’t appear that the creative team has reached out to her, with Swinton revealing that she is not in the movie at this point, sharing the following:
I’m sorry to have to tell you that I know nothing about this sequel except that I’ve heard it’s happening. Unless they’re very late in calling me, I don’t think Gabriel will be flapping his/her wings. I did hear a rumor, I don’t know if you heard it, that Keanu was going to play Gabriel. Which would be beautiful.

While original Constantine director Francis Lawrence is returning to helm Constantine 2, his sequel only has one confirmed cast member from the first film attached. At the time of this story’s publication, Keanu Reeves is the only actor confirmed to be back for Constantine 2. Since the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes ended last year, the sequel is seemingly moving forward, but no other actors have been announced yet.
However, it wouldn’t be shocking if Peter Stormare is back in some capacity as Lucifer Morningstar in Constantine 2. After all, it was Stormare who first got Constantine 2 rumors started in November 2020, when he stated that a sequel was seemingly being worked on by Warner Bros. Despite that, there is no official word yet if his Lucifer will be showing up in Constantine 2.
With Gunn’s DC Universe right now being the main priority for DC Studios, time will tell how the production process unfolds for the exciting DC movie sequel, as it could be some time before more outwardly tangible steps like filming take place. For now, the world will have to wait and see what happens with Constantine 2.
