The legendary Philadelphia Eagles center announced he was retiring from football after 13 seasons in the NFL earlier this month.

According to directors Don Argott and Sheena Joyce, the documentary was initially intended to follow Kelce’s retirement in 2021, but he ended up playing two more years.

Kelce went to the directors to create a goodbye documentary, but delayed his farewell after making it to the Super Bowl.

The documentary then pivoted to cover him changing his decision and his ascent into stardom aside his brother Travis.

Both Argott and Joyce were present at the Eagles facility this month to watch him make his official retirement announcement.

“In a way, we’ve kind of been making the Jason Kelce retirement documentary all along,” Joyce told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

“I don’t know where we’re all going to end up with this [footage] but we’re honored, and really feel privileged to be included in his life like this.

“When he called us…all I could do was congratulate him, because I know what a difficult decision it was to come to, and how heartbreaking it is to put a period at the end of that sentence.”

Joyce further revealed that the longer they filmed with Kelce the more they could see he was getting ready to step away from football.

“Jason wants to make sure he can perform at peak level at all times, and he knows that if he cannot perform at that peak level, that it’s going to eat him up,” Joyce said.

“That’s a really painful realization.”

The Kelce documentary premiered in September 2023 as the Kelce brothers were exploding into fame thanks to their New Heights podcast and Travis’ relationship with Taylor Swift.

With his new fame and an open schedule, retirement could get even more hectic for Kelce than his NFL career was.

TV networks and other companies will be heavily vying for his services, all of which will be captured on camera.

“We’re here for the ride, and we’ll be on it as long as they’ll have us,” said Argott.
