One Piece: What Is Imu’s Devil Fruit?

Here are some possibility concerning Imu’s Devil Fruit.

One Piece is in its Final Saga now and that means that Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates are very close to their dreams. Luffy has already ascended to the level of a Yonko now and the Straw Hat Pirates are also an incredibly capable group now, being feared all over the world. At the same time, the Final Saga of One Piece also means that the most competent of villains that Oda had been saving will now take center stage and be extremely important.

Of course, when one speaks of villains in One Piece, none hold as much weight as Imu, who is the sovereign of the entire world and certainly an incredibly powerful character who Luffy and the Straw Hat Pirates will have to come face to face with at some point in the story. Imu was recently revealed to have a powerful Devil Fruit, however, the name of this Devil Fruit has not been revealed to the fans just yet.

Imu’s Devil Fruit Reveal

Imu was the center of attention in One Piece right after the Final Saga began. Through Sabo, fans found out a great deal about the powers of the Five Elders as well as Imu themselves. Sabo was in the Holy Land of Marijoa when the Revolutionary Army declared war on the Celestial Dragons. At the same time, he also tried his best to rescue as many slaves as he possibly could and his goal of taking back Kuma was certainly a success as well. Sabo made great progress during the Reverie, however, some things that he did not expect even in his wildest dreams were shown to him as well. This happened in the throne room of the Pangea Castle, where Cobra had been summoned by the Five Elders.

Sabo was observing these events carefully and, when Cobra was somehow suddenly attacked, he jumped to his rescue. It was clear during this moment that Imu possessed a powerful Devil Fruit ability. To Sabo, this was a massive shock because he wasn’t exactly sure what he was witnessing. Sabo was not aware of Imu and their existence at all. To him, this was a massive shock as nobody should have been allowed to sit atop the Empty Throne, yet, Imu was freely sitting on the throne and the Five Elders were bowing down right in front of them. To take things a step further, Imu utilized their Devil Fruit ability to murder King Cobra. They produced some sort of arrow that pierced Cobra’s gut and dealt a lot of damage to him.

When Sabo jumped in to rescue Cobra, he launched a powerful attack at the Five Elders as well as Imu. The Five Elders managed to survive this attack with minimal effort but Imu was completely different. Emo wasn’t even hit by this technique. Instead, they chose to consume this technique. Essentially, they turned into some monstrous creature and opened their jaw wide open, swallowing the fire as if it were nothing. Sabo immediately realized that these people were too dangerous for him to fight and that he had to get out of there. Although his rescue of Cobra failed, Sabo did manage to get out before ultimately getting back to Dragon, which is how fans found out about Imu and their powers in the first place.

The Powers Of Imu’s Devil Fruit

Fans do not know a lot about the powers that Imu possesses at the moment, however, there are glimpses that they have seen over the years. The first ability that Imu has shown that belongs to their Devil Fruit is the power to control arrows. This particular arrow could be something that they produce from their body or it could be the tail of the creature that they turn into. It is highly likely that the pointy tail that is shaped like an arrow could belong to the creature that Imu transformed into when they try to murder Cobra and this tail is strong enough to pierce anyone’s body. Given that it also dealt a heavy blow to Sabo, one can assume that it is very powerful and that this creature, which is likely a Zoan, is extremely overpowered.

The second ability that belongs to Imu and likely stems from their Devil Fruit is the power to consume things. When Sabo attacked Imu, Oda threw more focus on Imu’s face. Whatever creature Imu transformed into appeared to have a pitch-black face, however, their eye was visible clearly. It certainly looked like a weird monster and to combat Sabo’s fire, it opened its jaw wide open. The jaw looked like that of a devil of some sort. Imu opened their door wide open and simply ate Sabo’s fire. This is something that not many creatures can do. Fans should remember that Sabo is extremely powerful and the fact that Imu simply consumed his fire like it was nothing just goes to show that their level is way higher.

Taking these two things into consideration, one can narrow down the ability that Imu possesses. For one, the ability should have a creature with a pointy tail and, secondly, they should be a creature that is capable of consuming fire. There are not many creatures that fit the description and the one that will be closest will be that of an actual devil.

What Devil Fruit Does Imu Have?

When speaking of what Devil Fruit Imu has, one can only narrow it down to another version of the Hito Hito no Mi. In the case of Imu, this Devil Fruit could be the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Akuma. It is clear that Imu will have a very overpowered Devil Fruit ability that could, in some ways, parallel Luffy. If Luffy is the Sun God that liberates people, then Imu will be evil that enslaves people. It makes perfect sense for them to be at the head of the Celestial Dragons and the sovereign of the entire world. When it comes to powers, Imu would also parallel LUFFY in this manner. Luffy has the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika. In the case of Imu, this fruit would be the same human fruit but the model will be that of a devil or some other sort of demonic monster.

This also makes sense when one looks at Imu and their appearance. Fans have not actually seen their face or their body in the first place. While this could simply be Oda covering this character up in a silhouette, it could also simply be because their Devil Fruit ability allows them to cloak themselves in darkness. This would be a very demonic power that they possess and would explain why fans have never seen their exact face in the story so far. Furthermore, the pointy tail is a sign of a demonic creature or the devil itself.

When taking this into consideration, along with the fact that this creature eats fire as if it’s nothing, one can only draw a comparison to the devil from hell. What further backs this idea is the statement from Sabo when he fought against these powerful creatures. Sabo clearly mentioned that this place felt like hell on top of the Red Line. In hell, a creature that consumes fire would only be the actual devil and that is exactly the power that Imu could end up having. Of course, this would only strengthen the idea that Luffy will have his best fight against Imu and that is something that fans absolutely cannot wait to see.

One Piece is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of One Piece, One Piece 1098, is set to be November 12, 2023.
