His Iron Man alter ego Tony Stark is a billionaire as well as a superhero, and the actor appears to be fast following in the footsteps of the character that won him his fortune.

The earnings are mostly due to his portrayal of Iron Man in a series of Marvel superhero films, including the Avengers.

Downey has become indispensable to the entire Marvel superhero franchise, and is a huge box office draw for both the Iron Man movies and the Avengers.

Coming up third on the list is Bradley Cooper with a mixture of critically acclaimed films and blockbuster comedies, garnering him an estimated $46million.
