Taylor Swift’s car of choice is as low-key as it gets

It’s official: Taylor Swift is coming to Australia.With ticket sales for the Sydney and Melbourne legs of her Eras Tour causing a veritable Ticketek meltdown, it’s safe to say anticipation is high for her arrival Down Under in February 2024.

When the time comes, die-hard Swifties will likely be scouring Melbourne and Sydney hotspots for a sighting of the pop megastar, and that includes keeping a close eye on the road for Swift’s car.So what car does Taylor Swift drive? Or, perhaps more realistically, does Taylor Swift drive – full stop?While plenty of celebrities of her status have given up driving altogether and enlisted full-time chauffeurs (like Jennifer Lopez, who quit driving for 25 years), Swift confirmed in 2019 that she still likes to drive herself where possible… with mixed results.

During a 2019 appearance on The Graham Norton Show, Swift recalled getting in two separate car accidents in one day while driving a journalist from Rolling Stone magazine around her hometown of Nashville.“I was just like, ‘I’m going to drive him because that’s what I normally do’,” Swift recalled of the interview for the magazine’s cover story.“And I got in two car accidents. With him in the car. One was my fault, one was not. One was an ‘I’m sorry’ and the second one was a, ‘You’re welcome, I saved your life’.”

With her net worth estimated at $US400 million ($AU605m), Swift’s budget likely knows no bounds – but her car collection errs on the side of practicality rather than showiness.Her first car as a teenage country music star was a pink Chevrolet Silverado gifted to her by her record label (she later donated it to charity) and, somewhat surprisingly, a white Hummer H2 – a family car Swift drove shortly after earning her permit.“I got my permit last year after I went three times and failed the test each time,” the singer revealed in a documentary filmed when she was just 16 years old.

Since then, Swift has been snapped in a series of luxury cars – including a Porsche 911 and an Audi R8 – but she’s more regularly spotted emerging from large SUVs with blacked-out windows and plenty of room for her entourage.So far in 2023, Swift has been snapped hiding from paparazzi in a Toyota Sequoia and a Cadillac Escalade. She also a fan of the Mercedes-Benz Viano.

Given none of those nameplates are available in Australia, it’s likely Swift and her posse will have to opt for the next best thing while Down Under – a Mercedes-Benz V-Class, Mercedes-Benz Vito Tourer or a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.

A Range Rover, Mercedes-Benz GLS or BMW X7 could also prove a luxurious alternative to the US-market Escalade, while a Toyota Kluger would certainly help her fly under the radar.
