Michael Damian has made a big splash in his return as Danny Romalotti on The Young and the Restless this fall, trying to navigate the dynamics between two ex-wives, Phyllis (Michelle Stafford) and Christine (Lauralee Bell). Viewers have loved seeing him back on the daytime landscape, and Soaps.com got the inside scoop on how long he plans on sticking around, especially with Phyllis hovering on the edge. And after what happens this week… well, see for yourself!
Damian relishes playing Danny again because of “the long history and nuances” that exist in his bumpy romance with Christine — it’s something that he’s “able to always tap into.” He gave us his hot take on Danny reuniting with “The Bug,” which really irks Phyllis these days. But, Damian seems to appreciate Danny’s level of forgiveness toward Phyllis despite their tumultuous history. “People evolve and the characters need to as well. [Phyllis] is telling [Danny] that she’s changed, and that she needs help getting out of her own way and becoming a better person,” he explains. “And so Danny has updated his quest to help her be a better person.”

That sounds pretty perfect, but what about poor Christine? Can she handle Phyllis’ constant meddling? Well, Damian is a little hesitant about promising smooth sailing ahead. “With Christine, right now, everything seems OK. You know, it seems to be working, but it’s getting maybe a little uncomfortable. And I think that Danny is like, ‘You know, look, let’s just give Phyllis the benefit of the doubt this time. Let’s see if she can achieve this great metamorphosis,’” he says. Danny seems to be buying Phyllis’ transformation, but does anyone else? If you give Phyllis too much leeway, it might spoil everything good Danny has going with Christine as the complicated love saga continues.
Damian also swears to us that he’s sticking around because he’s “loving doing this show” with all of the “twists and turns that they’ve created.” Yep, he’s totally digging the Christine and Phyllis drama as much as we are. He hints that The Young and the Restless writers have “really, really fun stuff planned” for Danny, Christine, and Phyllis. Despite his busy directing career, he is making the time “to pop over to Genoa City” and “jump on camera” whenever they need him. Damian says enthusiastically, “I think it’s really important as a filmmaker to reconnect to that other side [of the camera] and get back into sharing Danny’s story.” It sounds like this trio has a bumpy road ahead!
