Megyn Kelly slammed Taylor Swift‘s on-camera reaction after she became the target of a joke during the Golden Globes opening monologue Sunday night.
Swift looked distinctly unimpressed after she became the butt of one of Jo Koy’s gags, but Kelly said on her Monday show the pop icon made the ‘wrong move’ by not going along with the wisecrack to be a ‘good sport.’
The singer, 34, whose concert film The Eras tour movie was nominated in the new Cinematic and Box Office Achievement category but lost to Barbie, was enjoying a glass of champagne before Koy, 52, quipped about her romance with Travis Kelce, 34.
The joke went: ‘Welcome back. As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader.
‘The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL – on the Golden Globes fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.’

He said: ‘As you know, we came on after a football doubleheader. ‘The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL – on the Golden Globes fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift’
The camera then cut to a shot of a stoic Swift sipping on her drink as she failed to crack a smile.
‘I actually thought he was spot on with the commentary. She did not appreciate it… Can’t she just like show that she’s a good sport? I think she made the wrong move,’ Kelly said.
‘It was a gentle swipe. By the way, she’s not in charge with the number of times the NFL chooses to put her on cam. That’s not her fault. It is annoying. And if she were smart, she would laugh like she was in on the joke.’
Kelly’s guest, DailyMail.com columnist Maureen Callahan agreed with the host.
‘I thought it was funny. Come on, you’re at the Golden Globes. You’re in a category because you really made over $150 million at the box office – no small feat post COVID. This is what bothers people. This roomful of multimillionaires who are the most privileged who cannot take a swipe?’ Callahan commented.
Taylor Swift chose to ‘bite her tongue’ after Golden Globes host Jo Koy made a ‘tacky jab’ about her relationship with Travis Kelce
Swift looked to be seething as she gentle sipped her drink during the monologue
‘It was a gentle swipe. By the way, she’s not in charge with the number of times the NFL chooses to put her on cam. That’s not her fault. It is annoying. And if she were smart, she would laugh like she was in on the joke,’ Kelly added.
Callahan agreed that Taylor reacted poorly overall.
‘You have to show a sense of humor and a sense of humility about yourself. Taylor Swift is not above a minor little flyswatter here or there. She has been dominating the culture for the past year… maybe that’s the problem,’ she said.
But Kelly was still not done and laid into Swift further.
‘If I had been her advisor, I would have said “You should laugh and maybe even do like a faceplant.” Like, “Oh, I’m embarrassed because it’s a show I didn’t really want that, but I’m dating an NFL football player like something to communicate you get it, it’s been a bit much.’ That looked like “How dare you question me and my popularity.”‘

Taylor has become a regular fixture at beau Travis’s games
Koy’s quip sparked backlash from fans who wrote: ‘Cause of death for Jo Koy: That look Taylor Swift gave him as she sipped her drink.’
Another wrote: ‘Does the fool who’s hosting the Golden Globes and just made a joke about Taylor Swift realize millions of viewers had to Google who the hell is Jo Koy!???’
Others penned: ‘Oh Joe… don’t come for Ms.Swift ! *takes sip*.’
‘Agree. Uncomfortable laughter. And using Taylor Swift in a joke that stopped being funny months ago was a cheap shot.
‘That joke just didn’t make sense and wasn’t funny. why tf u bringing up the NFL only to talk about taylor swift’
Another supported Koy saying: ‘Can Taylor not take a joke? He wasn’t even putting her down it was a diss at the NFL for the way they cover her. It was funny & innocent.’
