One Piece Star Confirms An Iconic Character Will Finally Appear In Season 2

Mackenyu confirms the long-awaited appearance of the Straw Hats crew’s popular resident doctor.

With One Piece Season 2 preparing to begin production, series star Mackenyu says fans can expect Tony Tony Chopper to appear in the second outing of the Netflix live-action adaptation.

“Chopper’s going to be there, definitely,” Mackenyu, who plays Roronoa Zoro, told AugustMan. While the actor is excited for One Piece Season 2, he admitted that he knows little about the plot. “Actually, I do not know at all what’s coming up. There is not yet any script or shoot date yet as of now, so there is not much I can share about that.”

Mackenyu also shed some light on his other projects. “One is a fantasy movie, while another is a drama-style film. The latter one is a film centering around a family in Japan and Japanese politics,” he said. “It’s kind of a different style from what I’ve been doing these last couple of years, but I think it is interesting,” the actor continued.

Bringing Tony Tony Chopper to Life in Season 2

Jaco Snyman, who worked as the head of prosthetics and creature designer on One Piece Season 1 recently expressed his excitement about bringing Tony Tony Chopper to life in Season 2. “I’m looking forward to working on Tony Tony Chopper,” he said. “That’s going to be interesting. I hope that we are able to follow the same approach as with Arlong when we get to it.”

Tony Tony Chopper made his manga and anime debut in the Drum Island arc, in which he served as Dr. Kureha’s medical assistant. He eventually becomes the sixth member of Luffy’s Straw Hat crew. His devil fruit allows him to alter his appearance, and he can also turn into a hybrid. Like Luffy and other Devil Fruit eaters, Chopper can’t swim in the sea.

One Piece showrunner Matt Owens previously offered some insight into what fans can expect from Luffyin Season 2. “Without saying too much, and speaking to any new characters that we might meet, I would say a major theme that we’re working with in Season 2 is the challenge of leadership,” he said. Ownes also hinted at the difficulties the pirate crew will face in the Grand Line.

“From Luffy’s perspective, he’s got his crew now, and they are setting out to the Grand Line,” Ownes explained. “They’re doing the thing, and there are a lot of challenges that come with that responsibility. And that theme ties into some other stories and characters that I won’t give away just yet. But the challenge and leadership is a big theme for us in Season 2.”

All eight One Piece Season 1 episodes are now available to stream on Netflix.
