Jo Koy focused on assigning blame for the negative response to his performance at the recently held Golden Globes ceremony during his first stand-up set since the show occurred.

The 52-year-old comedian became the subject of criticism after he delivered what was described by many reviewers as an ineffective and lackluster monologue during the annual awards show, which took place on Sunday night.

The performer, who made Taylor Swift feel ‘uncomfortable’ during the star-studded event, went on to blame the response to his appearance at the show on oversensitivity at his stand-up appearance as he told more jokes in St. Louis, Missouri, on Friday night.

According to Variety, Koy described the Golden Globes’ audience as ‘marshmallows’ and added: ‘G******, they’re soft. I just come from a different time.’

The actor and comedian added: ‘I see the changes that are happening. I get it, but G******, can we f***ing laugh at ourselves?’

The performer’s audience was said to have shown their support for the embattled comedian, and one person in the audience didn’t sugarcoat their feelings about the Golden Globes audience.

‘F*** ’em!’ they shouted out.

Koy surmised that the awards show, which he never referred to by name, likely did not receive much exposure in the midwest, for which he was grateful.

‘I got a feeling none of you motherf***ers watched it, and I’m kinda happy. Oh my God. It feels good to live in this country. We get to say what we want to say. Don’t be apologetic about it at all. Be able to… speak your mind,’ he said.

The performer then remarked that he would rather be in snowy St. Louis than deal with the individuals in the entertainment industry, stating: ‘The weather is better in Hollywood, but I’m happy to be in this blizzard. When it rains, it pours.’

The actor also expressed that people from the midwest were much more forgiving than the individuals living on the west coast.

‘Here in St. Louis, [you’ve got] people that listen to you, understand you, and understand we’re not all out to attack each other. It’s stupid in LA,’ he said.

When an audience member asked him to figure out her ethnicity, Koy quipped: ‘No! I already got in trouble this week!’

The actor also showed his gratitude towards the audience for their support, stating: ‘I haven’t laughed in four days. I’m so happy. You guys make me so happy.’

The performer then told the individuals who had attended his show that they were ‘allowed to fail! Fail as much as you can. Just make sure you get the f*** back up.’

Koy concluded his performance by passing out merchandise to audience members, stating: ‘This has been a fun show, you guys. I needed it. This is therapy. You guys, I love you. Thank you so much.’

The comedian’s performance at the Golden Globes was criticized by many reviewers for what was described as an abundance of flat punchlines and a focus on easy targets.

However, several figures from the entertainment industry, including Steve Martin and Kevin Hart, have come to the actor’s defense in the days since the ceremony took place.
