This is a great honor for BLACKPINK, demonstrating the group’s position and influence in the Korean music industry.
The Korean Federation of Copyright Associations has selected BLACKPINK ‘s hit Whistle for induction into the Korean World Music Culture Hall of Fame. This is also the first song to appear on this Hall of Fame.
Talking about the reason for choosing Whistle , the Federation said: “The song has helped people in Korea and around the world feel comfortable.”
In particular, Whistle is BLACKPINK’s first song released in 2016 and helped the group debut to the audience as a “rookie” group. It is extremely rare for a debut song to become a huge hit and have a strong impact on the K-Pop music industry, and BLACKPINK is one of the few artists to do this.
Even in 2016, Whistle was honored by Billboard as being in the top of the best songs of the year. This is also the year that marks the first time a “rookie” K-Pop group has done this.
Six and seven years after its debut, Whistle still brings great achievements and prestigious titles from the Korean Federation of Copyright Associations. The songs of the four YG Entertainment girls are said to have had a great impact on Korean culture and society over the years.
