10 Things Only One Piece Manga Readers Know About The Egghead Island Arc

One Piece Manga readers know plenty of exciting details from the upcoming Egghead arc about The World Government and beloved characters like Garp.

After more than two decades, One Piece has finally entered its final saga – which means that the Straw Hats are slowly reaching the end of their journey. The final saga kicks off with the Egghead Arc, and the anime has just introduced fans to the futuristic island. The manga is further ahead than the anime, so manga readers know where the story is heading. Manga readers also know certain things that anime-only One Piece fans do not.

The Egghead Arc is moving pretty fast, and there has been a surprising amount of action so far. Manga readers have experienced some emotional flashbacks, and they have seen certain characters return or fight for the very first time. They have also learned a few things about the World Government and its leaders.

10. Dragon Was Once A Marine

One Piece Chapter 1097 – Ginny

Monkey D. Dragon has barely appeared in the series, which is surprising since he is the leader of the Revolutionary Army and Luffy’s father. Now that One Piece is in its final saga, Dragon will likely play a more significant role in the story – in fact, the last few manga chapters have helped to shed a bit of light on his backstory and personality.

During a flashback sequence that shows the early days of the Revolutionary Army, Dragon reveals that he was once a Marine. He apparently left the organization because he could not find any real justice with them. While speaking with Kuma in another flashback, he admits that Luffy is his weakness because he cares about him.

9. Vice Admiral Garp Was Defeated By The Blackbeard Pirates

One Piece Chapter 1088 – The Last Lesson

Vice Admiral Garp may be in his late 70s, but the legendary Marine is still one of the strongest characters in One Piece. While the Straw Hats are on Egghead, Garp goes to Hachinosu to rescue Koby – who is being held by the Blackbeard Pirates. He is forced to fight several of Blackbeard’s Titanic Captains – including Kuzan – who was once Garp’s student.

The ensuing fight is a hard-hitting affair, and Garp can counter Kuzan’s Logia powers with Haki. Unfortunately, he is stabbed while protecting Koby from an invisible Shiryu. Garp is ablecanhem off long enough for Koby and the others to escape, but he is defeated in the process. He was impaled through the chest by a large piece of ice, and his status is currently unknown.

8. Koby Can Use Advanced Haki

One Piece Chapter 1088 – The Last Lesson

When One Piece began, Koby was a weakling, but he has gone on to become a strong and respected Marine. When the Blackbeard Pirates were on Amazon Lily, Koby offered to be taken prisoner because he did not want his petrified allies to be taken hostage.

During Garp’s rescue operation, Koby tries to escape with other SWORD members and a bunch of freed slaves, but Avalo Pizarro attempts to stop them by destroying their battleship. Koby leaps into the air and uses advanced Armament Haki for the first time. He can now emit Armament Haki without a medium, and it is strong enough to destroy a gigantic hand.

7. Jaguar D. Saul Is Alive

One Piece Chapter 1066 – The Will Of Ohara

Jaguar D. Saul met Nico Robin when she was still a child, and they became very close friends on Ohara. Saul is a Giant and a former Vice Admiral. He betrayed the Marines because he believed in a different type of justice. When the World Government ordered the Buster Call on Ohara, Kuzan was one of the Vice Admirals sent to the island.

Robin was able to escape Ohara’s destruction because of Saul, but the Giant was completely frozen by Kuzan’s Devil Fruit. For more than two decades, Robin believed that Saul was dead. When the Straw Hats visit Egghead, Vegapunk talks about Ohara, and it is revealed that Saul survived the Buster Call and Kuzan’s ice. He even managed to save some of Ohara’s research.

6. The Kid Pirates Are No More

One Piece Chapter 1079 – Emperor Red – Haired Pirates

When the time came to leave Wano, Eustass Kid and the Kid Pirates picked the sea route that leads straight to Elbaf – the island of the Giants. When they got there, they encounter The Red Hair Pirates, the Giant Warrior Pirates, and several other crews who are loyal to Shanks. This encounter leads to Shanks fighting seriously for the very first time.

Shanks saw how much damage Kid was going to do with his Observation Haki – so he enters the battlefield himself. Shanks uses his Conqueror’s Haki to defeat Kid and Killer in a single attack, and other members of the Kid Pirates attempt to plead with Shanks. Those pleas land on deaf ears, and the Giants finish off the Kid Pirates by sinking their ship.

5. Kuma’s Heartbreaking Backstory

One Piece Chapters 1096 – 1102

Anime-only fans will soon learn that Bartholomew Kuma is part of the Buccaneer race. The World Nobles dislike the Buccaneers, so they enslave Kuma and his parents. Kuma’s mother dies while in captivity, and his father is shot right in front of him. Kuma is then sent to God Valley with other slaves – where they waremeant to be hunted.

He escapes with Ivankov and a girl named Ginny. Kuma and Ginny develop a relationship and join the Revolutionary Army, but she is kidnapped and is forced to marry a World Noble. Ginny dies years later after contracting Sapphire Scales, and she leaves her baby girl with Kuma. The girl is Jewelry Bonney, and she soon develops the same disease. Kuma agrees to become a mindless Pacifista to save his adopted daughter’s life.

4. The True Fate Of Nefertari Cobra

One Piece Chapter 1085 – The Death Of Nefertari Cobra

Most of the world believes King Nefertari Cobra was killed by Sabo during the Reverī, but anime-only viewers will soon learn the truth. Sabo witnessed Cobra’s death, but he did not cause it – in fact, he tried to save the former king. During the ReverīCobra meets the Five Elders – who are standing before the Empty Throne. He asks them about his ancestor – Nefertari Lili and the meaning behind the D. initial.

That is when Imu appears. The mysterious figure reveals that Lili’s real name was Nefertari D. Lili, and that D. is the name of the World Government’s enemy. Imu also states that Lili is the reason the Poneglyphs were scattered throughout the world. This exchange sealed Cobra’s fate, and Imu stabs him from afar. Sabo intervenes, but Cobra sacrifices himself so Sabo can escape with the new information.

3. Imu & The Five Elders Have Devil Fruit Powers

One Piece Chapter 1085 – The Death Of Nefertari Cobra & Chapter 1094 – “Gorosei” – Science Defense Deity Saint Jigarsia Saturn

When Sabo tried to save Cobra, he filled the room with fire, and this caused the Five Elders and Imu to assume large shadowy forms. Saint Jaygarcia Saturn is the Elder who holds the Warrior God of Science and Defense title, and he personally oversees Egghead’s destruction in the manga.

As the battle continues, Saturn decides to enter the battlefield, and in doing so, he confirms that each of the Elders and Imu possess some type of Mythical Zoan-type Devil Fruit. Saturn’s Devil Fruit gives him an oni-like appearance with spider legs, and it gives him immense regenerative capabilities. He can also seemingly freeze others in place, and those with weak Haki seemingly die if they look at him.

2. Jewelry Bonney Can Use Nika’s Powers

One Piece Chapter 1101 – Dear Bonney

Manga readers learned that Bonney got her Devil Fruit power from Saturn. He wanted to see if a newborn could gain powers if they are given a Devil Fruit’s extract. The experiment was a success, and Bonney can now manipulate the aging process of anything, including herself.

Through flashbacks, fans learn that Bonney is actually 12 years old and that she can age herself into any possible future forms. When Bonney was younger, Kuma taught her about Nika and his rubber powers. As a result, she can give herself Nika’s powers – to the point she can use a version of Luffy’s Gear 3rd transformation.

1. The Perceived Origin Of Devil Fruits

One Piece Chapter 1069 – All Things Are Brought Into This World With Hope

Devil Fruits have been a part of One Piece since the beginning, but no one really knows where they come from. As the Egghead Arc continues, anime-only fans will learn about their theorized origins. According to Dr. Vegapunk, Devil Fruits represent different branches of humanity’s potential future.

Vegapunk further theorizes that humans seemingly bring Devil Fruits into existence with their hopes and desires. He also believes that Devil Fruit users exist in other dimensions that were dreamed up by others. The sea rejects these individuals because they supposedly exist in an unnatural state.
