One Piece Episode 1093 Highlights Trafalgar Law vs. Blackbeard Fight – And a Gender Swap

One Piece Episode 1093 features the long-awaited battle between Blackbeard and Trafalgar D. Water Law, as well as a gender swap transformation.

Marshall D. Teach, infamously known around the world as Blackbeard the Pirate, shows no mercy against Trafalgar D. Water Law in One Piece Episode 1093.

After being pushed back in favor of a recap, Episode 1093 of One Piece proved to be worth the one-week delay. Continuing the strong showing of the “Egghead” story arc, the latest episode featured numerous pieces of standout animation by the top animators of Toei Animation. Key animator Vincent Chansard — who previously animated Law in Episode 957 of the “Wano Country” arc — collaborated once again with storyboard artist Katsumi Ishizuka for the highly anticipated match-up against the two pirate captains.

Of course, Chansard and Ishizuka didn’t work on the latest episode of One Piece alone. Henry Thurlow, the first American animator to direct an episode of One Piece at Toei Animation, worked on the flashback sequence featured in the episode. He was joined by online artist Anno (@/Anno_RG on social media website X), who contributed to the episode. Episode 1093 also marked the debut of animator Eric Terlato.

As if the throwdown against Blackbeard and Law wasn’t enough to whet fans’ appetite, One Piece Episode 1093 contained another highly-anticipated moment that manga readers have been dying to see adapted: the gender-swap transformation of Law. For the confused, while diving deep into the sea to escape from the Blackbeard pirates’ assault, the Heart Pirates become infected by Doc Q’s Sick-Sick Fruit.

Succumbing to the Feminization Disease, Law and his men are quickly turned into women. However, through the power of Haki, Law reverses the process. While One Piece fans were disappointed that the Rule 63 sequence wasn’t extended from the manga, they were nevertheless pleased with the results. Given the creative talents of the One Piece fandom, one should expect a flood of female Law cosplays and fan art soon.

One Piece is available on multiple streaming services such as Crunchyroll, Hulu and Netflix. Following the successful launch of the live-action One Piece TV show, Netflix is now streaming the latest anime episodes, in addition to producing an anime TV remake. Viz Media handles the English distribution of the manga.
