Salma Hayek took to Instagram on Monday to share an insight into her trip to Pompeii.

The Hollywood actress, 57, cut a glamorous figure in a black outfit with nude lace straps as she shared a series of selfies from her trip.

Salma wrote: ‘I feel an undeniable connection to the world that existed centuries ago.

‘When you walk through the ruins of Pompeii you can’t help but imagine the lives of the people and their spirit linger in the air.

‘The endurance of its buildings have survived to tell stories of of triumph and tragedy, of love and loss, all frozen in time.’

Mount Vesuvius erupted in the year AD 79, burying the cities of Pompeii, Oplontis, and Stabiae under ashes and rock fragments, and the city of Herculaneum under a mudflow.

Mount Vesuvius, on the west coast of Italy, is the only active volcano in continental Europe and is thought to be one of the most dangerous volcanoes in the world.

Every single resident died instantly when the southern Italian town was hit by a 500°C pyroclastic hot surge.

Numerous bodies were frozen in time, having been preserved in a protective layer of ash before they eventually decayed.

Around 30,000 people are believed to have died in the chaos, with bodies still being discovered to this day.

Salma’s trip comes after she shared some racy flashback photos from the 1990s on Instagram last week.

The actress posed completely nude in a bed with silver sheets and a lilac feather boa.

Salma took pictures of some on the ancient artwork which has been uncovered in the city

Salma’s trip comes after she shared some racy flashback photos from the 1990s on Instagram last week

Salma last starred as Kitty Softpaws in the critically-acclaimed Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. She was also seen in Magic Mike’s Last Dance.

She will also star in Angelina Jolie’s next directorial effort Without Blood, which is currently in post-production.

The actress is in the cast alongside Demian Bichir in the adaptation of Alessandro Baricco’s novel, adapted by Angelina herself.
