The idea of a zombie universe from “The Walking Dead” series seems to only make audiences more angry after all they have been treated to.
Even zombies have to be exhausted at times. The 9th season of Walking Dead marked an unprecedented crisis for the TV series that once took the small screen by storm, with 6.1 million views compared to more than 17 million views of the 5th season. Even if the series’ rating drops to 2.5, that’s still not enough to stop AMC from continuing to milk this brand. With the “birth” of three more theatrical-length TV movies about Rick Grimes, producer Scott M. Gimple’s ambition to build the Walking Dead universe still seems huge. The Walking Dead will probably still exist for a long time after 8 years of the apocalypse turning people into zombies, while it is clear that this series has exhausted its ideas.
“The Walking Dead” has long stopped surprising people.
Of course, the film’s creative team will definitely still come up with some new “ideas”. Will the zombies be more evolved, more monstrous or even… more human? Little Judith Grimes grew up and became a leader with a cowboy hat on her head. Rick Grimes thought he was “cool” but will not die and go explore life elsewhere, even though actor Andrew Lincoln has said goodbye to television audiences. However, it must be admitted that for many years, Walking Dead has no longer made viewers feel sad and moved, but attracted them through the guise of shocking details and deceived us with mixed real and fake deaths.
The biggest problem of season 9 lies in the fate of character Rick Grimes. A show that often opens up to the audience about the life and death status of its characters like Walking Dead has now foreshadowed the fate of one of the show’s most important and valuable characters from the beginning of the season. The entire marketing process for season 9 revolves around Rick, suggesting that the audience should prepare themselves to say goodbye to the leader of the 8-year long battle for survival.
However, the fifth episode of What Comes After was too lifeless and obvious when the actors were even more lacking in character than zombies. It feels like we are watching a poorly performed funeral, everything is arranged to suggest to the audience that this is the last episode you will see Rick, pay attention and watch. Then Rick also sacrificed himself to save his team, everyone shed tears as he fulfilled his role as a hero until the last moments.
But life is not like a dream…
Suddenly, yes, a mysterious helicopter appeared. What the hell, AMC? Along with that is the information that Rick Grimes will return in THREE MOVIES based on Walking Dead. So Rick Grimes will still have land on Walking Dead? Like an awkward street farce, expecting the audience to clap absent-mindedly, AMC plays with the viewers as if they were fools.
After this song of breakup and reunion, where will Walking Dead go? Well, Negan will return for revenge, along with the appearance of The Whisperers – a gang of survivors that will make the lives of Daryl, Michonne or Carol miserable again. If all of the above doesn’t sound very exciting, don’t forget we have 3 TV movies and countless spin-off products in the works. In the end, whether you watch it or not is up to you, but really, how attractive the “cinematic universe” Walking Dead that people are talking about will probably be already.
