Tiger Woods could make an appearance in the highly anticipated sequel to Happy Gilmore – with fellow golf star John Daly also in line for a cameo role.
Last week, streaming giants Netflix announced plans to release a sequel to the popular comedy film, which earned $39 million on a $12 million budget at the box office back in 1996. The movie followed the fictional story of Happy Gilmore – played by Adam Sandler – a failed hockey player who found an incredible talent for playing golf.
Hollywood star Sandler says he has held discussions with long-time collaborator and writer Tim Herlihy about the new film, which could see an ageing Gilmore compete against younger players on the PGA tour. And speaking in an interview with Whiskey Riff, the 57-year-old teased that 15-time major winner Woods and 1995 Open Championship winner Daly could both have a small role in the movie.
He said: “I would love it. We’ll see. I’m gonna write all my dreams, and then you never know what’s gonna happen. But we’re gonna [try].Sandler (right) starred in the iconic comedy film 28 years ago (Image: Getty Images)
“Herlihy, he went down to the tournament this weekend and hung out with some of the guys. He hung out with Daly a little bit and Daly was telling some great stories. We’re ready, baby. We’re excited.
“We have a million things like I told you, but I’ve just got to kind of make it flow a little more. But I think it might have to do with something to do with me being a little older now and still trying to compete with the youngsters.”
