Blackpink’s Lisa, a prominent figure in the K-pop industry, has recently faced a significant setback on Chinese social media. A few months after her much-talked-about performances at the renowned Crazy Horse cabaret in Paris, Weibo, a leading Chinese social media platform, has expunged all content related to Lisa. This lead to the official Weibo accounts of luxury brands CELINE and BVLGARI deleting all posts related to Lisa.
Amidst this, support for Lisa has emerged from an influential quarter: Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of BVLGARI, seemingly stood by the artist by featuring a montage of her photos on his personal Instagram stories, a move interpreted by fans as a gesture of support.
The controversy stems from Lisa’s performance at Crazy Horse, which has sparked significant debate and criticism within China. The nation’s stringent stance against what it considers to be ‘obscene’ entertainment has apparently led to the removal of Lisa’s digital presence on its platforms. The incident underscores the cultural clashes and the tightrope walk international artists must navigate in the global entertainment landscape.
