Jennie bought a house, showing signs of leaving YG

Recently,  Biz Hankook  reported that Jennie bought the luxury villa La Terrasse Hannam located in UN Village, Yongsan-gu, Seoul for 5 billion won.

The villa purchased by Ennie is confirmed to have an area of ​​244 m2, including 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. La Terrace Hannam is a famous apartment complex and is also where actor Lee Jong Suk lives.

According to Korean media, Jennie signed a contract to buy La Terrace Hannam in February 2021, more than 2 years ago. Normally, on the day of signing a real estate purchase contract, 10% of the amount will be paid in advance by the buyer to the seller.

If the remaining amount is paid in full within 6 months, ownership of the apartment will be transferred to the buyer.

In Jennie’s case, 500 million won was paid by the female singer to the seller in February 2021. The remaining amount of 4.5 billion won was paid by her after 2 years and 5 months. Korean media commented that this period of time was unusually long. Biz Hankook  commented that the contract renewal issue with YG Entertainment could be one of the reasons leading to this strange situation.

On the same day,  TV Report  reported that key employees in charge of BlackPink’s activities left YG Entertainment one after another. Specifically, the manager in charge of Jennie’s foreign schedule said she left YG in October after 4 years working at this company.

In addition, Jennie recently registered the copyright of the Jennie Ruby Jane brand in many categories such as restaurants, cosmetics, clothes, food… With the above signs, the audience is almost certain that Jennie will leave YG Entertainment. .

And perhaps Jennie is not the only member to leave YG. According to  TV Report , Lisa’s manager – who held a senior management position at YG for 5 years since 2018 – recently announced on LinkedIn that she left YG at the end of October.

Regarding the above issue, YG issued an announcement on November 14: “Up to now, the exclusive contract with the artist is still being negotiated to extend. The final result will be announced later.”

News1  reported that YG Entertainment’s target stock price on November 14 dropped to 93,000 won, down 11% compared to before. The reason is that BlackPink’s contract extension has continued for a long time without a final decision.

Lee Ki Hoon – researcher at Hana Securities – said on November 14: “BlackPink’s contract may or may not be renewed, and even if it is, there will be fluctuations depending on the type of contract. Stock prices may fall.”

He continued: “If the contract renewal of all BlackPink is announced, the market capitalization will quickly increase again to 1.5 trillion won, equivalent to a stock price of about 80,000 won.”

Unlike other companies, YG is giving up many existing intellectual property (IP) rights such as Big Bang, iKON and 2NE1. Accordingly, except for Winner who is enlisting, BlackPink and Treasure are the only active groups. Therefore, the announcement of Blackpink’s contract extension was delayed, causing the stock price to decline.

The issue of BlackPink’s contract extension has not yet been announced, making fans confused.

However, the fact that BABYMONSTER has finally been confirmed to launch on November 27 is said to be a positive aspect for the company.

Researcher Lee said: “After BABYMONSTER debuted and released a single in November, we estimate the group will have an album in the first half of next year. Recently debuted girl groups often sell millions of albums during their second promotion. If this trend holds true for BABYMONSTER, this will be a significant growth driver for the company.”

However, BlackPink’s global operations bring huge revenue to YG. According to  TV Report , the portion of BlackPink’s operating profit belonging to YG is estimated to be more than 85% by 2023. Therefore, losing BlackPink is still a huge loss for this company.
