This species of octopus is quite attractive with its luminous green rings on the body.

The green spotted octopus is a visually appealing species with its luminous green rings on the body. It often camouflages itself and is not inherently aggressive, only attacking when it feels provoked. The venom is stored in salivary glands and the octopus’s beak located in the middle of its body.

Most bites initially cause minimal pain in the first 5-10 minutes, followed by increasing pain and potential numbness. Bites can lead to excessive bleeding, nausea, vomiting, changes in vision, and difficulty swallowing.

After 10 minutes, victims may experience difficulty breathing, paralysis, and require artificial respiration until they can be transported to the hospital. Currently, there is no antivenom for the venom of the green spotted octopus. In extreme cases, its bite can result in death due to respiratory failure or cardiac arrest.

Both the green spotted octopus and the king cobra are among the most venomous creatures on Earth. Comparatively, a bite from the green spotted octopus is potent enough to kill 25 people within a few minutes, far more powerful than the venom of the king cobra (which can cause the death of a healthy adult within 15-30 minutes).

Like all octopus species, the green spotted octopus can change its shape for camouflage.
