Dragon Ball Manga Artist Shares New Goku Sketch Ahead of Daima

Dragon Ball Daima is scheduled to release in 2024, and the illustrator behind the manga has done a new Goku sketch to share in the growing excitement.

The artist behind the Dragon Ball manga has sketched Goku in anticipation of Dragon Ball Daima‘s release next year.

Toyotaro is known specifically for drawing the Dragon Ball Super manga, as well as adaptations of Resurrection F, and he was handpicked by series creator Akira Toriyama to be his successor in art while Toriyama focused on writing the manga and eventual Dragon Ball Super anime adaptation. At New York Comic Con, Toei Animation revealed that Dragon Ball Daima would be releasing in 2024 as the next official anime within the mainline canon. In celebration of this, Toyotaro recently posted a sketch of “Kid Goku” on X (formerly Twitter).

New Dragon Ball Art For a New Anime

While a manga adaptation of Dragon Ball Daima hasn’t been confirmed, this is likely due to past anime getting the manga spotlight. For example, the movie Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero was not manga canon but an original story by Akira Toriyama. However, it was later adapted into the manga to become canon for future story arcs. Toyotaro drew Kid Goku because Dragon Ball Daima will once again revert Goku back to his “kid form” — but unlike in Dragon Ball GT, all the other Z-Fighters will be joining him.

As revealed at NYCC, Dragon Ball Daima‘s plot focuses on a mysterious group using the Dragon Balls to wish most of the Z-Fighters into either kid or baby forms. To figure out what’s going on, Goku, Vegeta and the others will have to travel to new worlds to find a way to undo the wish and work out who did this to them in the first place. A key thing to note is that Dragon Ball Daima takes place within the timeframe between Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball Super, thus acting as a bridge between the two series.

The trailer for Dragon Ball Daima highlighted the crisp style that Toei Animation will bring next fall. However, many fans were perplexed by the reveal for multiple reasons. The biggest of these that the Dragon Ball Super manga has had multiple arcs following the beloved “Tournament of Power” storyline, and they want to see those arcs adapted. The “Moro” arc and “Granolah the Survivor” arc highlighted many advancements in the story, including Goku fully mastering Ultra Instinct, Vegeta getting Ultra Ego and the emergence of Black Frieza. However, there has been no word on whether a Dragon Ball Super sequel series will ever emerge.

Dragon Ball Daima will release in Fall 2024.
