The Independent reported that the 35-year-old rapper, real name Rakim Mayers, entered the not guilty pleas in person at a Los Angeles court last year. According to a statement, he was charged with shooting the victim twice during the “subsequent confrontation”.

As per PEOPLE, prosecutors claimed that he pointed a semi-automatic handgun at his former friend during a “heated discussion in Hollywood”. In a statement, District Attorney George Gascón of Los Angeles County stated:

“Discharging a gun in a public place is a serious offense that could have ended with tragic consequences not only for the person targeted but also for innocent bystanders visiting Hollywood. My office conducted a thorough review of the evidence in this case and determined that the addition of a special firearm allegation was warranted.”

Moreover, PEOPLE was able to obtain court records indicating that Relli identified himself as the victim and filed a civil lawsuit against Rocky for assault and emotional distress.

Following about a day and a half of testimony from two witnesses during a preliminary court hearing, Los Angeles judge M.L. Villar decided on November 20, 2023, that there was enough evidence for A$AP Rocky to stand trial (per US Magazine). Villar set the date of his trial for January 8, 2024.
