Britney Spears seemingly SHADES Justin Timberlake after he performed his diss track Cry Me A River about their messy breakup as she calls him out for previously being a sore loser

Britney Spears did not hold back as she reacted to Justin Timberlake‘s performance of his diss track, Cry Me A River, about their painful breakup on Wednesday.

Despite recently revealing that the song, released in 2002 following the end of their three-year relationship, ‘shattered’ her heart in memoir, The Woman in Me, the former NSYNC frontman, 42, surprised audiences by crooning the spiteful ballad about an unfaithful lover.

While acknowledging the controversial choice to put the song on his show’s setlist at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas, the singer prefaced his performance by saying he meant ‘no disrespect,’ presumably toward Spears.

In response, the mother-of-two took to Instagram to dredge up some past memories with the 10-time Grammy winner, which depicted him as a sore loser and mediocre athlete.

‘I never mentioned how I beat him in basketball,’ she wrote on Instagram, before recalling how ‘he would cry’ when he would lose games to her.

While she did no explicitly say she was referring to Timberlake, the performer ended her lengthy caption by saying ‘no disrespect,’ the same phrase he said while on stage earlier this week.

Spears previously claimed in her book that the track left her looking like a ‘harlot who’d broken the heart of America’s golden boy.’

She also slammed him for using the song to fuel the narrative that her infidelity destroyed their relationship – while keeping quiet about his own unfaithful ways.

On Friday morning, a source told DailyMail.com that Spears ‘appreciates’ that her ex acknowledged the controversy around the Grammy-winning song, but has still not received a personal apology from him.

‘The disrespect to Britney was done a long time ago and although she appreciates his acknowledgement of it, Justin has never called her personally or reached out to her personally to apologize,’ the insider told DailyMail.com exclusively.

‘He has never addressed this with her. Ever. Britney has moved on from this and writing her book allowed her to release it. She’s good.’

It was previously reported that Justin wanted to refrain from speaking out on the allegations so as not to ‘get in the way’ of Britney’s chance to finally share her story.

Frustrating: On Friday morning, a source told DailyMail.com that Spears ‘appreciates’ that her ex acknowledged the controversy around the Grammy-winning song, but has still not received a personal apology from him (seen in 2002)

In her recent memoir, Spears wrote about how she felt voiceless after her ex put out his top five hit, which effectively put forward his narrative of being the wronged party in their breakup. The pair dated from 1999 to 2002.

‘I felt there was no way at the time to tell my side of the story,’ she wrote. ‘I couldn’t explain, because I knew no one would take my side once Justin had convinced the world of his version. I don’t think Justin realized the power he had in shaming me. I don’t think he understands to this day.’

Justin also delved into the creation of Cry Me A River and the impact that his relationship with Britney had on it in his 2018 memoir Hindsight.

‘I’ve been scorned. I’ve been p****d off. That feeling inspired me to write Cry Me A River,’ he wrote.

Justin was among a host of stars invited to celebrate the opening of the Fontainebleau this week, and also performed his hits SexyBack, Rock Your Body and Can’t Stop The Feeling

But he was more circumspect in an apology shared to social media in February of 2021, after Britney’s fans had begun mobilizing to try to have her 13-year conservatorship dismantled and a damaging New York Times documentary — which was not authorized by Spears — examined their relationship and the aftermath of their breakup.

‘I understand that I fell short in these moments and in many others… I specifically want to apologize to Britney Spears and Janet Jackson both individually, because I care for and respect these women and I know I failed,’ he said, while also referencing renewed scrutiny he received for his role in the ‘wardrobe malfunction’ during his performance with Janet at the 2004 Super Bowl halftime show.

Although he was reportedly a full participant in the display, which involved him ripping off part of Janet’s outfit to expose one of her breasts, his career continued to soar while hers suffered for years.

Britney’s conservatorship was dissolved nine months later in November 2021.

The singer got candid in her new book, in which she also revealed Justin had ended their relationship via a text message and that she underwent an abortion in 2000 because the N*Sync star ‘didn’t want to be a father.’

In addition to Cry Me A River, he also performed SexyBack, Rock Your Body, and his Trolls anthem Can’t Stop The Feeling.

The final tune of the night was Mirrors, which featured on his 2013 album The 20/20 Experience. He previously said the song was written for his wife Jessica Biel

The final song of the night was Mirrors, which was featured on his album The 20/20 Experience.

Justin previously wrote about penning the track in honor of Jessica Biel, who he married in 2012.

‘We were living together at the time. We weren’t engaged yet. In fact, it was years before I proposed…,’ he recounted, before referencing how his grandparents set an example for his marriage to her.

‘The video became a dedication to my grandparents. I learned about long-lasting love from them. I know that’s what I have with my wife…,’ he gushed.

‘She changed me. She changed my life. All of that is in Mirrors. Not the details. But the way it felt to have my life be touched by her.’
