Chris Evans was the perfect MCU Captain America; however, stunning 90s Avengers art shows what Brad Pitt could have looked like as Steve Rogers.
Brad Pitt becomes Captain America in stunning 90s Avengers fan art. The Marvel Cinematic Universe has had two main versions of the star-spangled hero, with Chris Evans leading three Captain America movies and appearing at least in one project every year from 2011 to 2019 as Steve Rogers. Following Avengers: Endgame, Steve passed on his shield to Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson, who will lead Captain America: Brave New World. Now, fan art depicts what it would have looked like if Pitt had become Captain America years before Evans did.
On Instagram, @houseofmat imagined Pitt’s look as Steve Rogers if he had been cast as Captain America in the 90s.
With his blonde hair and sporting a different take on Captain America’s classic suit inspired by the 90s rather than the World War II-era suit Evans wore in Captain America: The First Avenger, Pitt looks great as Steve Rogers. While he never played a major Marvel hero, having only had a cameo as Vanisher in Deadpool 2, perhaps a bigger role will come Pitt’s way in an upcoming Marvel movie, possibly even a version of Captain America.
What Captain America Variants Could Appear In The MCU
An Evil Captain America Could Be On The Way
With Pitt or not, the MCU could still see different versions of Captain America debut in the near future. As part of the Multiverse Saga, the MCU has seen different versions of characters like Spider-Man, Loki, and Doctor Strange appear. Based on the MCU movies and shows that have featured different takes on established characters, anything from having the same actor play multiple roles or having several actors play variants of the same character is fair game.
As Steve Rogers’ MCU arc ended beautifully in Avengers: Endgame, the main version of the hero is unlikely to come back. However, that does not block Evans from returning as a different take on Captain America. In 2017, Marvel Comics’ Secret Empire event shook up the superhero world. Captain America was suddenly revealed to have always been a Hydra agent — or not really, as the event would later reveal — and took over the Earth before leaving his red, white, and blue costume for a gold and green suit.
One way of keeping the MCU’s focus on Sam Wilson as Captain America would be to have Evans return as the evil “Captain Hydra,” who could serve as the main villain of multiple movies or even an entire Phase of the MCU. Besides his evil variant, other versions of Captain America from the multiverse that could appear before the Multiverse Saga ends with Avengers: Secret Wars are the Soldier Supreme variant from the comics — a mix between Captain America and Doctor Strange — or the Captain America of Earth-838, who could perhaps be played by Pitt, giving him a chance to suit up as Captain America in the MCU.
