The sleigh bells will ring for the mystery holiday movie from Amazon MGM Studios and scribe Chris Morgan before Thanksgiving on Nov. 15, 2024.
Red One, the mystery Christmas movie from Dwayne Johnson and his Seven Bucks Productions and screenwriter Chris Morgan, is set to hit theaters worldwide on Nov. 15, 2024.
The Amazon MGM Studios’ epic holiday action comedy is based on an original story from Hiram Garcia, president of production at Seven Bucks Productions. Jake Kasdan directed the movie from a script by Morgan.
Fast and Furious scribe Morgan worked with Johnson on four Fast movies as well as the Johnson-led 2019 spinoff, Hobbs & Shaw. The ensemble cast alongside Johnson includes J.K. Simmons, Lucy Liu, Kiernan Shipka, Bonnie Hunt, Kristofer Hivju, Nick Kroll, Mary Elizabeth Ellis and Wesley Kimmel.
Amazon has already signaled its push into theatrical movies and the dating of Red One underlines how it has its sights on the holiday corridor starting just before Thanksgiving next year. Seven Bucks also set up Red One at Amazon to take advantage of branding and e-commerce business opportunities for the movie beyond eventually streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video.
Johnson previously described the movie via his Instagram page as a “big, fun, action packed and fresh new take on Christmas Lore 🛷🎄☃️🎬😈🎅🏾Think Jumanji meets Miracle on 34th Street meets Hobbs & Shaw with a dash of Harry Potter and sprinkled on top with my all-time favorite Christmas movie, It’s a Wonderful Life…”
Red One is produced by Garcia, Johnson and Dany Garcia at Seven Buck; Chris Morgan Productions’ Chris Morgan; and The Detective Agency’s Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar. Executive producers include Barry Waldman and Chris Morgan Productions’ Ainsley Davis, with John Wildermuth and The Detective Agency’s Sky Salem Robinson co-producing.
Warner Bros. Pictures is handling the international release of Red One as part of its distribution pact with Amazon MGM Studios.
