Beyonce, Stephen Sanchez and Ed Sheeran top the list of Australian couples’ most popular wedding songs

A 20-year-old hit by American singer Beyoncé has won the hearts of thousands of Australian couples.

The fan favourite dance tune, Crazy in Love, has topped a list of Most Popular Wedding songs used Down Under, tying with Stephen Sanchez’s Until I Found You.

First release in 2003, Beyoncé recorded her song with rap artist Jay-Z, who she later married.

According the list, which was compiled from a survey conducted in Melbourne by the Herald Sun, Crazy in Love was the first choice for newlywed couples’ first dance.

However, the Beyoncé tune tied with Sanchez’s ballad from 2021 as the top pick for the couple’s ‘wedding entrance’ used after the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran‘s Perfect Duet from 2017 also with Beyoncé, was voted third best wedding song in the survey.

Popular Australian performer Vance Joy also captured the imagination of love birds, ranking towards the top of the survey.

Two of the singer’s hits – Clarity and I’m With You – made the list of most popular wedding tunes.

According to the survey, newlyweds were also keen to hit the dance floor with You My Love by another music icon, Frank Sinatra, as well as Childish Gambino’s Summertime Magic and So Into You.

Last year, an ABBA single was voted the UK’s favourite wedding party song – but it’s not I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do.

Nearly 50 years after it was released, the Swedish supergroup’s 1976 smash-hit Dancing Queen is still the main ‘go-to’ song for big-day playlists.

Don’t Stop Me Now by Queen and Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline completed the top three in the poll of 2,000 wedding guests, with another ABBA hit, Mamma Mia, coming fifth.

Single Ladies by Beyoncé, One Love by Blue and Steps’ 5, 6, 7, 8 also made the ‘ultimate playlist’.

The survey by Jacob’s Mini Cheddars found that 59 per cent of guests loved the ‘cheesiness’ of wedding songs, while 21 per cent look for hits they can dance to.
