Jennifer Lopez calls her ‘friend’ America Ferrera an ‘inspiration’ at Barbie event: ‘She motivates us to use our voices’

Jennifer Lopez made a stunning impression in a black crop top and matching skirt with pink heels on Saturday evening at Neuehouse Hollywood in Los Angeles.

The 54-year-old This Is Me… Now singer supported her good friend America Ferrera of Ugly Betty fame.

JLo appeared at a special screening of America’s blockbuster summer 2023 film Barbie for the Latin community.

A conversation with Ferrera, 39, followed the screening of the film and DailyMail.com got the discussion exclusively.

And Jennifer – who is set to appear at the Golden Globes on Sunday with husband Ben Affleck to support Air, DailyMail.com has learned – made sweet comments before the actress stepped on stage.

She called America and ‘inspiration’ as Ferrera then said she thinks ‘every day’ about what Lopez would do in any given situation.

‘Barbie is all about empowerment, It’s about the magic of the stories we tell ourselves about our inner imaginary little girl playtime fantasies that turn into our real life big girl dreams and the knowledge that we can be whoever we want to be,’ began Lopez.

‘No matter if we’re a girl from the Bronx via Puerto Rico, from Los Angeles via Honduras, or from Mattel via the magical pink box.’

She then said: ‘There is no one who embodies this more on and off screen than my friend, America Ferrera!’

Them the Coach model added, ‘She has been such an inspiration as we continue to empower the Latin community. She shows up when we need her – motivating us to use our voices to advocate for a better world. I’m happy to be one who can say to her – Thank you for all that you do.’

Ferrera said to Jennifer: ‘There was no road before you, and every single thing that you’ve done and every step that you paved is still permission in every way for me and for so many of us.

‘I think about you on a weekly basis. What would Jennifer do? She’d get her ass up and do it!

The Dumb Money actress added, ‘Thank you and to have you here supporting me in this moment which we know for our community doesn’t come too often.

‘That we get to be represented in the big stories, in the big dreaming motion pictures.’

Before taking a group photo with the audience, Lopez concluded by commenting on the authenticity of America’s performance in the film, which was met by a big round of applause.

Lopez will have a busy month.

She is releasing a new music video with her first single Can’t Get Enough at 9am on January 10.

A full circle moment, Lopez and Meyers worked together over twenty years ago on a music video for her ‘This Is Me…Then’ album and reunited for ‘This Is Me…Now’.

Can’t Get Enough, is the debut single from her ninth studio album ‘This Is Me…Now’.

Her first major musical project in almost a decade, the long awaited musical experience releases on February 16th, 2024 with a new full length album and film inspired by the music.
