The Ravens game against the Titans in London on Oct. 15 resulted in a 23-16 Baltimore win. The game was physical, as are most involving the Ravens, but this game had some extra flair that continued after the final whistle.
For his part in the festivities, Ravens wideout Odell Beckham Jr. was fined $33,317 for a par of unnecessary roughness calls, and Titans defensive end Jeffery Simmons was fined $11,473 for one per NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Things went south between Beckham and Simmons when Simmons jumped on Baltimore rookie receiver Zay Flowers’ legs after a play.
OBJ saw the play and determined it was a cheap shot on Simmons’ part, and retaliated with a knee to the groin. Simmons then pushed OBJ causing him to fall to the ground in an apparent flop.
The game continued to the final gun, but the hostilities did not.
After the game, Simmons went searching for Beckham, apparently hoping for retaliation. When Beckham was located, Simmons went right for the facemask, escalating the situation to the point where Ravens players had to call stadium security to break it up.
Due to the size differences it would not have necessarily been a fair fight. Simmons is 6-4, 305 pounds, where Beckham is listed at 5-11, 200 pounds. But OBJ did not hesitate to go after a much larger player when it came to defending a teammate.
The Ravens pulled out the win and now lead the AFC North by a half-game over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Baltimore will be in action on Oct. 22 at home against the NFC North-leading Detroit Lions.
