Taylor Swift and Harry Styles’ guitars among huge haul of items going under hammer at Grammys auction

Guitars from pop superstars Taylor Swift and Harry Styles are among the musical treasures set to be auctioned off next month for charity by Julien’s Auctions.

On Thursday, the auction house and the music industry charity organization MusiCares announced a lot of 75 items set to be sold off in conjunction with next month’s 66th annual Grammy Awards, which are being held February 4 in Los Angeles.

The auction will be held live for the first time ever at the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles and online on Julien’s website, the organizations said. Session one of the auction will take place February 4 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. PT, according to organizers.

Among the other artists to donate instruments to donate to the annual fundraiser include Paul McCartneyLionel Richie, The Cure’s Robert Smith, late Fleetwood Mac artist Christine McVie, Dr. Dre, Bad Bunny and Metallica’s James Hetfield.

Swift – who is nominated for six honors at this year’s event – donated an autographed Baby Taylor model acoustic guitar in natural finish.

Styles donated an autographed 1999 Gretsch White Falcon hollow body electric guitar with a white finish with gold sparkle bindings and Cadillac Tailpiece

The item is expected to sell for between $5,000 – $7,000. According to organizers, ‘This guitar has not been played by Swift but was donated and signed by her.’

The musical instrument, which the As It Was singer drew a heart and swirl on, is expected to sell for between $3,000 – $5,000.

Lionel Richie donated to the auction a gold sequined performance bomber jacket featuring a large Swarovski crystal embellished graphic referring to the singer’s 80s hit All Night Long on the back, organizers said.

The jacket, which was designed by celebrity stylist David Thomas, is expected to sell for between $4,000-$6,000. The Dancing on the Ceiling artist in 2016 was honored as MusiCares Person of the Year.

Metallica lead singer James Hetfield donated a signature ESP LTD Vulture model guitar in black satin finish with EMG Het Set pickups, set-neck and ebony fingerboard with custom vulture inlay, organizers said.

The Enter Sandman artist signed the item – which is estimated to sell for between $4,000-$6,000 – ‘JH 23 / Metallica / 2023.’

The guitar comes in its original hard case with a set of guitar picks and an ESP sticker, organizers said.

Bad Bunny donated a 2011 Schecter Diamond Series model T S/H-1 semi-hollow body guitar, in silverburst finish with flat top and back and twin Super Rock pickups to the proceedings, organizers said.

The Monaco performer signed the instrument backstage at last year’s Grammys, and it has an estimated sale price between $800 and $1,200.

According to event organizers, the auction will be livestreamed via their respective websites in addition to YouTube, Facebook and Instagram Live. The event will be broadcast in a multi-camera shoot directed by Emmy-nominated director Jerry Foley, who past worked on the Late Show with David Letterman.

Proceeds from the auction will be forwarded to MusiCares, which ‘provides the music community a support system of health and human services across a spectrum of needs including physical and mental health, addiction recovery, unforeseen personal emergencies and disaster relief,’ according to the organizations.

Julien’s Auctions co-founder and executive director Martin Nolan said in a statement: ‘During this special time of year, we look forward to presenting with our esteemed partner MusiCares some of the biggest and best pieces of music memorabilia at our annual charity initiative that celebrates our universal love of music and the arts while furthering a good cause.

‘There are so many unique and incredible items for every music fan and collector from icons such as Christine McVie and Taylor Swift to Paul McCartney with many more to be announced.’
