An exceptional girl named Alena Analeigh has set a new record as the youngest African-American girl to be admitted into a medical school in the United States after gaining admission into the University of Alabama Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine at the age of 13.
Alena Analeigh had previously gained admission to the Arizona State University, Arizona, United States to study Engineering at the young age of 12 years old. After one year of studying Engineering, she decided to switch her career path to becoming a Medical Doctor.
She took a full course load at Arizona State University and Oakwood University and after just one year, she has already finished two and a half years of college studying Engineering. “I really want to leave my mark on the world. And lead a group of girls that know what they can do,” Alena said.
Last year, she wanted to become an Engineer and saw herself working at NASA – The National Aeronautics and Space Administration. However, another passion took over shortly after she gained an interest in biology.
“It actually took one class in engineering, for me to say this is kind of not where I wanted to go,” she said.“I think viral immunology really came from my passion for volunteering and going out there engaging with the world.”
Alena is not new to switching her interest in study as she is brilliant enough to take on any challenge. Originally she wanted to become an astronomer but then she decided to switch over to engineering because of her love of building things.
But now, she has gained admission into the University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine at the age of 13 and is set to become a Medical Doctor at the age of 18 years old.
Upon receiving her acceptance letter last week, she took to Instagram to express her joy and gratitude for her mom. “Statistics would have said I never would have made it,” she said.
“A little black girl adopted from Fontana California. I’ve worked so hard to reach my goals and live my dreams. Mama, I made it. I couldn’t have done it without you. You gave me every opportunity possible to be successful. You cheered me on, wiped my tears, gave me Oreos when I needed comfort, you never allowed me to settle, and disciplined me when I needed.”
“You are the best mother a kid could ever ask for. MAMA I MADE IT! You always believed in me.You allowed me space to grow and become, make mistakes without making me feel bad. You allowed me the opportunity to experience the world,” she added.
Alena hopes to inspire young girls and show them that there are no limits. “I want to inspire the girls. I want them to see that there are no limits,” she said.
