Morena Baccarin, known for her role in Deadpool, recently opened up about the challenges she faced while filming intimate scenes and kissing Ryan Reynolds on set. Contrary to expectations, the experience was not as enjoyable as one might assume.
Despite the enthusiasm of many Ryan Reynolds fans who might dream of sharing a kiss with the actor, Baccarin revealed that the reality was quite different. Her sentiments were influenced by Reynolds spending a significant amount of time in a latex suit to portray the character of Deadpool.
Baccarin and Reynolds co-starred in both the original Deadpool movie and its 2018 sequel, where Baccarin played the character Vanessa, the protagonistβs girlfriend. The on-screen couple had to engage in intimate scenes, including a two-day sΠ΅x scene montage in the first film, celebrating various occasions while dressed in corresponding festive outfits.
Reflecting on the experience during an interview with Conan OβBrien in 2017, Baccarin shared, β[The film] was really funβ¦ minus the two days of sΠ΅x scenes, it was wonderful, the whole experience.β She went on to explain that the extensive sΠ΅x scene took two days to shoot, encompassing the celebration of multiple holidays with different outfits for each.
Even the scenes involving just kissing were challenging for Baccarin, who, in a 2018 interview with People magazine, described the discomfort caused by Reynoldsβ Deadpool costume. βI keep saying that kissing him in that mask is like kissing a giant latex cΠΎndΠΎm,β she humorously remarked. βIt basically just smells like rubber the entire time.β
Despite the unconventional challenges, Baccarin praised Reynolds for his professionalism, highlighting the camaraderie and laughter that helped make the experience more bearable. In a 2015 interview with Collider, she shared, β[T]hereβs a lot of laughing. And that stuff is always uncomfortable. But, we made the best of it.β Baccarin emphasized that over time, the familiarity between co-stars grew, making the intimate scenes more manageable.
While the behind-the-scenes revelations may surprise fans, Baccarinβs acknowledgment of Reynoldsβ professionalism and their ability to navigate the discomfort reflects the collaborative and adaptable nature of filmmaking.
