A 15-year-old boy named Maheraj Ahmed has won a scholarship worth 76,000 pounds to study fr his bachelors degree at Etons College in the United Kingdom.
Ahmed is native of Bangladesh whose family moved to the United Kingdom when he was just five years old. He is a student of Cumberland School, East London who was awarded a scholarship to study at Eton College.
He stated that he underwent a grueling three-day assessment process to win the 76,000 pounds. “My family and I have had a hard life, going to Eton will give me a chance to make our lives better,” he said.
“People would not think that I would have much in common with the boys at Eton, but they just want to do well in life and that is all I want,” he added.
Ahmed’s mother, Rani Begum said the family is very proud of his achievements stating that Ahmed has always been so smart since he was little. She added that their family is lucky to have their son enroll in one of the United Kingdom’s top colleges.
He also made history as the first student from Cumberland School to study at Eton College, having gone through mentorship throughout the application process by the Executive Headteacher.
He said he had to undergo three entrance examinations, seven interviews, and a public debate to secure a place at the renowned university. At Eton, he will study A-levels in history, chemistry, biology, and physics.
He added that he would also push for his ambitions to become a heart surgeon. Ahmed mentioned that he has sights set on world-renowned institutions such as Oxford or Cambridge University for his further studies.
