Amazon Prime Video Renews The Boys Spinoff Gen V for a Second Season Following its Dominance as the Most-Watched Show in 130 Countries.

Gen V, a spinoff of the Amazon Prime Video satirical superhero series The Boys, will return for a second season.

Per an official statement, Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, relayed his excitement over the future of the series.

‘Expanding the universe of The Boys with a series as bold as Gen V has been an incredible journey for us and our wonderful partners at Sony,’ he said.

‘From our first conversation with showrunners Michele Fazekas and Tara Butters, along with Eric Kripke, Evan Goldberg, and Seth Rogen, we knew Gen V would push the boundaries,’ the executive noted. He added that fans loved the creative team’s ‘unapologetic approach’ to storytelling.

The official announcement of the season two renewal comes ahead of the Gen V season one finale, which is set to drop on the streamer on Friday, November 3.

They’re back baby: Gen V, Amazon Prime Video’s latest hit series, has been renewed for a second season after the show was the number one series on the platform in 130 countries

Likened to a ‘blood-spattered Hogwarts’ Gen V also achieved the rare perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes upon its series debut.

The series follows a group of young ‘supes’ (how superheroes are referred to in the world of The Boys and Gen V) as they struggle to learn how to manage their superpowers at Godolkin University, cheekily referred to as ‘God U.’

They gained said powers after being injected with Compound V, a substance manufactured by Vought International.

Timeline wise, the events of Gen V season one take place several weeks or months after the catastrophic events of The Boys season three, like Homelander (Antony Starr) murdering an unarmed citizen.

Gen V does have multiple references to The Boys, even featuring some familiar faces from the original series like A-Train (Jessie T. Usher) and Ashley Barrett (Colby Minifie).

Earlier this year, Gen V’s show runner Michele Fazekas and executive producer Eric Kripke (the show runner of The Boys) said in an official statement ‘Sophomore year [of Gen V] is gonna be wild, with all the twists, heart, satire, and exploding genitalia you’ve come to expect from the show.’

At the time Michele and Eric released the statement, they confirmed that the writers were already hard at work on the second season.

However, it’s unknown how many scripts were completed before the SAG-AFTRA strike.

Much like the original series, the main cast of Gen V start off eager to join the Seven, Vought’s elite group of ‘supes’ that the whole country admires.

Something sinister: Luke Riordan (L) played by Patrick Schwarzenegger, has a deep conversation with Marie in a scene from Gen V

Girl power: L to R: Emma, Marie and Cate Dunlap, played by Maddie Phillips, team up in a scene from Gen V season one

Meanwhile: The cast of The Boys did start shooting the fourth season last YEAR, but a release date has yet to be confirmed

The boys are back in town: The original series that Gen V is spin off from features a group of vigilantes determined to reveal the truth about ‘supes’ to the world…with the help of a few good ‘supes’ like Starlight (played by Erin Moriarty)

However, after a suspicious death occurs in the first episode, the kids realize just how corrupt ‘God U’ really is.

A release date for Gen V has yet to be confirmed.

However, the show will likely return sometime in 2024, given that the season one finale is dropping this November.

A release date for the fourth season of The Boys also has yet to be released by Amazon Prime Video – however, the cast was already starting to shoot scenes for season four back in fall of 2022.
