Inter Miami youngster Shanyder Borgelin was full of praise for Lionel Messi after last night’s 1-1 draw against Newell’s Old Boys.
The Argentine superstar was named in the starting XI alongside Luis Suarez as Messi once again impressed for Inter Miami, with the attacker playing over an hour against his boyhood club.
Yet it was Borgelin who would be the hero on the night for the Herons, with the 22-year-old forward opening the scoring shortly after Messi was brought off for the Haitian international.
And speaking to the Miami Herald, Borgelin couldn’t help but praise Messi, with the attacker naming his teammate as the best player in the world and a figure who has given Inter Miami confidence.
Borgelin said when asked about the pressure of the upcoming season: “That’s expected when you have the greatest player in the world, four of the greatest players in the world, but I think we’re ready.
“We are all called up to a big task. I definitely think the (preseason) losses and everything that comes with that made us a lot stronger and you saw that (Thursday) with how we fought.”
Lionel Messi will help the likes of Shanyder Borgelin reach their true potential at Inter Miami.
Messi’s presence alone has been enough for some Inter Miami players to take their game to a whole new level, with Robert Taylor the obvious example for this statement.
Yet Borgelin could be another player who thrives with Messi in his environment, with a number of Inter Miami youngsters eager to learn from the Argentine international during his time at the club.
With the 22-year-old now in the spotlight, Borgelin will want to go from strength to strength from here on out, and any advice from Messi on the training ground will be of use for the attacker.
