Inter Miami have reportedly made a formal offer to sign Houston Dynamo’s Argentine defender Franco Escobar.
The 2024 MLS season kicks off this week, with Inter Miami hosting the opening game of the campaign this Wednesday against Real Salt Lake in Florida.
The Herons have spent in recent weeks in the form of Luis Suarez and Julian Gressel to increase their odds of Lionel Messi claiming even more silverware in his career.
And according to journalist Cesar Luis Merlo, Inter Miami have now made a bid to sign Escobar, who has previously worked under Tata Martino at Atlanta United, where the pair won MLS Cup back in 2018.
As per the reporter, Escobar is eager to play alongside Messi, with the 28-year-old Argentina defender born in the same city as the soccer legend and even coming through the same club as the attacker.
Indeed, Escobar’s MLS experience and incredible honors list of two MLS Cups and two US Open Cups would be a welcome addition for Inter Miami, if the Herons can make a deal legally happen.
Franco Escobar could be a fantastic signing for Inter Miami
Whilst the question of ‘can Inter Miami even sign another player’ remains up in the air, there’s no doubt that Escobar would be a great addition to the squad.
The versatile defender, who usually plays at right-back, has an impressive track record in MLS as well as a strong understanding of the league, something Inter Miami need amongst their roster if they’re to succeed.
Escobar’s previous experience working under Martino would also be a huge benefit for the Herons in their quest to win every trophy out there this season, with the defender already aware of Inter Miami’s system.
Moreover, the fullback’s dream to play alongside Messi could see Escobar elevate his performance levels like we have already seen with a number of players in recent months, a prospect that will excite supporters.
