If you have finished binge-watching The Boys’ spinoff series ‘Gen V’, then hats off to you, mate! However, we know what’s currently going on in your supe-infested mind. Gen V’s penultimate episode capped off with surprising cameos and an even more shocking revelation. That being said, many fans are now left wondering if there will be a Gen V season 2. Warning: There will be major spoilers in this article, so read at your own risk!
Is Gen V getting a second season?
You betcha! Amazon announced season 2 just a few weeks after Gen V debuted in Prime Video. Ahead of the show’s finale, fans were enthralled that the adventures of the disturbed Godolkin University students would return for another blood-filled action.
It’s worth remembering that a month ago, although Amazon Prime hasn’t officially ordered Gen V for another season yet, Gen V showrunner Michele Fazekas and The Boys creator Eric Kripke were already very optimistic that viewers will get another run with the young supes. In an interview with The Wrap, Fazekas and Kripke said they have already gathered all the writers for Gen V despite the show’s sequel not yet being greenlit by the studio.
Since it was positively received by fans of The Boys, who also created a new Gen V fanbase, there is no doubt Gen V season 2 will happen.
Gen V season 2: Release date, cast, plot
There is no announced release date for Gen V’s follow-up season, but it surely wouldn’t be 2024 since The Boys season 4 is slated to be released next year. With the writers just beginning to work for season 2, it’s plausible that Gen V S2 will be out by 2025.
As for what happens next, it’s obviously not going to be similar to season 1. Even after a botched stint as college students in God U, the show’s main characters, Marie Moreau (Jaz Sinclair), Chance Perdomo as Andre Anderson (Chance Perdomo), Emma Meyer (Lizze Broadway), Cate Dunlap (Maddie Phillips), Jordan Li (London Thor and Derek Luh), and Samuel “Sam” Riordan (Asa Germann), are still likely to return, but in a different setup.
However, Moreau’s status is still questionable after meeting an enraged Homelander in the finale (you know what we mean). After all, Gen V isn’t exactly a spinoff. It’s more of a bridge between seasons 3 and 4 of The Boys since what happens after Gen V is reportedly going to be the beginning of the fourth season of The Boys. Could we see a team-up between Moreau’s crew and Billy Butcher and the rest of The Boys (Hughie, MM, Frenchi, Kimiko, and Starlight)?
How good is Gen V? Is it worth watching?
Given that three seasons of The Boys were phenomenal, fans would probably be asking if Gen V is worth watching. Is it even half as good as The Boys was? Well, for starters, this spinoff series is rated fresh by Rotten Tomatoes, with a 96% score from 50 reviews. Aside from that, from a viewer’s standpoint, Gen V perfectly uses The Boys’ formula with some new additions. Basically, this coming-of-age idea is great especially since supes are still students. In addition, giving enough time for backstories makes it a very compelling show.
Now, let’s get to the good part. Gen V is just as diabolical as The Boys. Blood, gore, s*x, politics, fight scenes, and more. Whatever you asked for, it’s here (maybe even better at times). Most of the s*x scenes in Gen V will traumatize you, so if you’re not into this kind of stuff, better keep away. As some fans would say, Gen V is “The Boys but Sky High”. If you thought you’d seen everything in The Boys, you’re going to have a treat in this series. The first season of Gen V can be streamed exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.
