Conor McGregor odds on to return to the UFC… but MMA superstar is also tipped to swap the Octagon for the ring and become a boxer or wrestler

Conor McGregor may have announced his retirement from MMA but neither fans nor bookmakers are convinced we’ve seen the last of the Irish superstar in the Octagon.

The 30-year-old rocked the sporting world on Tuesday when he revealed he had called time on his career in the UFC, declaring: ‘Pina Coladas on me fellas!’

It’s not the first time the Irishman has threatened to walk away from the sport – back in 2016 he he tweeted that he had ‘decided to retire young’ a month after losing to Nate Diaz.

Conor McGregor shocked fans by announcing his retirement from MMA on Tuesday

But the Irish UFC superstar, still only 30, remains odds-on to fight in the Octagon again

WHAT WILL CONOR MCGREGOR DO NEXT?

1/2 Fight in the UFC again

7/4 To have a professional boxing bout

5/2 To appear in Wrestlemania

33/1 To have a UK No.1 single

150/1 To win an Oscar

And now, too, fans and bookmakers are unsure this really is the end. McGregor is 1/2 on to fight in the UFC again, while he is 7/4 to return to professional boxing, having made £75million for fighting Floyd Mayweather on his ring debut back in August 2017.

It wouldn’t come as a huge surprise if he followed his former rival into professional wrestling, either.

Mayweather faced the Big Show during a brief foray into wrestling back in 2012 and many expect McGregor to swap the UFC for the WWE, too.

McGregor is 7/4 to return to professional boxing, having lost his debut to Floyd Mayweather

The odds of the 30-year-old appearing at the organisation’s showpiece event, Wrestlemania, are just 5/2. Current WWE wrestler Finn Balor even tweeted McGregor on Tuesday saying: ‘See you at ‘mania brother.’

In recent years the Notorious has proven himself a shrewd businessman both in and out of the Octagon.

He is MMA’s biggest star and has also launched his own Irish whiskey brand, Proper No. Twelve. Now the odds on him turning his hand to music and earning a UK No 1 single are only 33/1.

But it’s McGregor’s antics outside the Octagon that have earned him so much support and notoriety over the years.

McGregor, a master self-promoter, is only 150/1 to monetise his theatrics and win an Oscar

The Irishman is a master self-promoter, with his insults and antics during pre-fight press conferences helping him become the sport’s richest star.

The likes of David Haye and Deontay Wlider have expressed an interest in becoming an actor after hanging up their gloves.

And should McGregor decide to turn his knack for theatrics into a spin-off career, he’s only 150/1 to win an Oscar.
