Since Transformers: Rise of the Beasts set up Unicron as the next big Transformers villain, the massive Transformer is likely to appear again in the next film. With other worlds expected to appear, the plot of Transformers 8 could see the Autobots, Maximals, and Joes trying to stop Unicron from consuming faraway planets. With other Transformers on other planets, this would allow the movie to explore many more species of Transformers and expand the overall lore. Transformers 8 can also introduce G.I. Joe into the film’s universe, exploring their capabilities and how they factor into the story. While Caple Jr.’s plans seem to be centered around the Transformers franchise, G.I. Joe is still expected to appear in some capacity. The addition of G.I. Joe characters in a sequel to Transformers: Rise of the Beasts may allow them to be point-of-view characters for the audiences as other Transformers species are introduced.

Subsequently, the universe depicted in the animated series Challenge of the GoBots and follow-up film GoBots: Battle of the Rock Lords was retroactively established as an alternate universe within the Transformers robot superhero storyline.
