Daryl Dixon season 2 and Dead City season 2 receive filming updates from The Walking Dead franchise’s chief content officer, Scott M. Gimple. Though the original series ended in 2022, The Walking Dead franchise is continuing with multiple spinoff series, including two which have been renewed for second seasons. Daryl Dixon follows Norman Reedus’ titular crossbow-wielding character in France, while Dead City follows Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in Manhattan as they search for her kidnapped son, Hershel.
In an interview with TV Insider, Gimple shared filming updates for both Daryl Dixon season 2 and Dead City season 2. The Walking Dead franchise’s chief content officer says the former is in postproduction, while the latter is scouting locations. Read his full comment below:
We’re [in postproduction of] Season 2 of Daryl, and they’re scouting [locations] on Dead City right now [at press time in January]. If I wasn’t busy finishing up [Daryl Dixon], I would be with them.
The Walking Dead Franchise Future Explained
The sixth Walking Dead spinoff, The Ones Who Live, is currently airing, which follows Michonne (Danai Gurira) as she searches for Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) after he was taken away in a CRM helicopter. Since the series is still ongoing, it’s unclear if The Ones Who Live season 2 is in the cards. However, the spinoff appears to be intended as a six-episode miniseries that will wrap up Rick and Michonne’s love story for good. That being said, Gimple has left the door open for a second season, saying, “anything is possible. Even if Rick dies in the last episode.”
The Ones Who Live airs new episodes Sundays at 9 pm ET on AMC and AMC+.

However, there are two Walking Dead spinoffs that are confirmed to be continuing into second seasons. Since it’s already in postproduction, Daryl Dixon season 2 will premiere first, with a summer 2024 release window already confirmed. The second season is subtitled The Book of Carol and will feature Melissa McBride in a recurring role after her cameo in the season 1 finale. Additionally, a third season of Daryl Dixon is already in development. Since Dead City season 2 is only scouting locations, it won’t premiere until after, though a 2024 premiere isn’t out of the question.
