After a two-year break from the ring, former unified heavyweight world champion Andy Ruiz Jr. will take on Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller in Los Angeles on August 3.
After defeating Luis Ortiz by unanimous decision in September 2022, Ruiz has not competed since. However, he plans to hit the mat again later this year in California.
The WBA light-middleweight world champion Israil Madrimov and Terence Crawford will square off on the undercard of the heavyweight match.
The card will also include Vergil Ortiz vs. Tim Tszyu, Isaac Cruz vs. Jose Valenzuela, David Morrell vs. Radivoje Kalajdzic, and Andy Cruz vs. Antonio Moran.
Under the direction of His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA), Riyadh Season will present the event.
After a two-year break from the ring, former unified heavyweight world champion Andy Ruiz will take on Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller in Los Angeles on August 3.
Ruiz stunned the world when he beat Anthony Joshua inside Madison Square Garden in 2019
Ruiz defeated Joshua in seven incredible rounds in New York to become the top player in the sport.
When Ruiz defeated Anthony Joshua in 2019 to win the WBO, IBF, IBO, and WBA titles, he became the first heavyweight of Mexican descent to become a unified heavyweight champion.
Ruiz was not supposed to face Joshua at first, but he was granted the chance after Miller, who was supposed to be his opponent, failed three drug tests in the run-up to the fight.
Ruiz was only the owner of AJ’s belts for a brief period of time, as the British boxer recovered from an unexpected first-round loss to reclaim his titles in Saudi Arabia in December of the same year.
AUGUST 3 CARD
Terence Crawford vs Israil Madrimov
Vergil Ortiz vs Tim Tszyu
Andy Ruiz vs Jarrell Miller
Isaac Cruz vs Jose Valenzuela
David Morrell vs Radivoje Kalajdzic
Andy Cruz vs Antonio Moran
Joshua cruised to a 118-110, 118-110, 119-109 points victory against Ruiz – who weighed in at 283lb, 15lb heavier than their first fight.
Ruiz has fought just twice since then, last stepping foot in the ring in September 2022 – beating Cuban boxer Ortiz via unanimous decision.
That victory saw the WBC order a fight between Ruiz and Deontay Wilder as a final eliminator to determine Tyson Fury’s mandatory challenger.
However, the title eliminator failed to materialise – with the Bronze Bomber looking at alternative options instead.
The American-born Mexican will be looking to return to winning ways on August 3, as will Miller.
Miller last fought on the December 23,2023, Day of Reckoning card in Saudi Arabia.
Miller went toe-to-toe with Daniel Dubois – losing the bout in the dying seconds of the 10th round at the Kingdom Arena.
The fight between Ruiz and Miller will be taking place on the undercard of Crawford’s fight with WBA light-middleweight world champion Israil Madrimov on 3 August in Los Angeles.
Crawford – who is a former lightweight world champion and has also been undisputed champion at light-welterweight and welterweight – will be looking to secure a world title in a fourth weight division.

The event will be presented by Riyadh Season under His Excellency Turki Alalshikh, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Entertainment Authority (GEA)
Crawford beat Errol Spence Jr in July and will be looking to add Madrimov to the long list of names he has wins over – including Britons Ricky Burns, Amir Khan and Kell Brook.
The highly-anticipated card will also mark the kingdom’s first boxing event outside of Saudi, with His Excellency Alalshikh proving he has the ability to put on history-making fights around the globe.
Speaking about the event, HE Alalshikh said: ‘We are delighted for Riyadh Season to host its first overseas event in Los Angeles and this fight in the United States is a special one to mark this moment.
‘We want to give people around the world the opportunity to enjoy their own Riyadh Season experience and this is exactly what we hope to achieve by staging this and also future events around the world ‘.
While Eddie Hearn added: ‘This is a fantastic fight between a pound-for-pound great and one of the best World champions in the sport. Terence is a pound-for-pound great and continues to strive to be the very best.

‘But in Israil, he meets a hungry champion that has no intention of relinquishing his title in his first defense – this promises to be one of the fights of the year.
‘The undercard has to be one of if not the best we have ever seen for a US card – get ready for a huge night on August 3 in Los Angeles’.
Crawford is equally as excited about the event, stating: ‘I’m proud to partner with Riyadh Season and HE Turki Alalshikh on their first boxing event in the United States. I cannot wait to get back in the ring in my fourth weight class and remind the world why I’m the best pound for pound fighter in the world.
‘Israil Madrimov is a tremendous and entertaining fighter, but on August 3, he will be my next victim. This is the Terence Crawford era.’
