Jennifer Lawrence hasn’t attended the Met Gala in almost a decade. Her last appearance at the event was in 2015. Tonight was no different.
Lawrence made her Met Gala debut in 2013, where she appeared in a strapless, flower-adorned black Christian Dior gown that was belted at the waist. She wore a netted veil in her hair to reflect the night’s “PUNK: Chaos To Couture” theme.
That same year, she spoke with ELLE Canada about being tapped to be a Dior ambassador and how her relationship with fashion has changed. “I’d never really been that interested in fashion. I’m like every girl—I want to wear something that looks good, but when it came to red carpets, I was never very opinionated,” she said. “But if I don’t have an opinion, then somebody else will. So, I decided to start being more vocal about what I like and don’t like. If I have to wear something, I may as well wear something I like!”
She spoke with ELLE Canada again in November 2023 about her personal style, telling the magazine: “I normally lean toward a more understated elegance and quiet luxury.”
She also spoke about how she became interested in watches, which ultimately led her to becoming an ambassador for Longines. “The first watch I ever wore was a digital watch that had kind of a [Magic] 8-Ball question-answer situation. You could say ‘Does so-and-so have a crush on me?’ [And it’d be] like, ‘No way!’” she recalled. “Then I started caring about watches about four or five years ago. My husband and I were engaged, and my brother- in-law gifted me a watch from his father. It was just really meaningful to me, obviously. That’s when I started to notice watches, which led me to Longines.”
