Between the runways and the award shows, hairstylists everywhere sent a very clear message: Soft hair is totally IN. While you’re brainstorming your prom-spiration (get it? prom + inspiration?) for your own updo, take a cue from two of Hollywood’s leading ladies at last weekend’s Academy Awards.

Scarlett has been shying away from her usual bombshell look, and we’re loving the change. With nude lips, a softer smoky eye, and dewy skin, she was every bit the romantic. To complement the easy glamour of the makeup, Fekkai’s Duffy worked hair magic on a tousled updo. The piece-y look called for extra volume on the sides and a slight curl for playful texture.

Meanwhile, Anne Hathaway went the tried-and-true route of Old-Hollywood glam (hello, Valentino Couture gown!), and we could not complain. With a bold red lip courtesy of **Chanel Coco Rouge in Rivoli **and a classic chignon, she beamed on the red carpet. Also take note: Hathaway’s front pieces are highlighted, which creates fantastic dimension and warms up the face for the cameras.
