In a memorandum sent to PGA Tour members, the PGA Tour Policy Board announced the creation of a special sponsor exemption category dedicated to the man who changed professional golf forever. The lifetime exemption rule will allow Tiger Woods to participate in all Signature Events from next season onwards.

As we know, Woods’ current competition schedule is limited to the Majors and a few other tournaments. This recognition will allow him to regularly participate in the most important events of the PGA Tour season. Jay Monahan commented on the Board’s decision as follows: “It was important for our sense of belonging, it’s something we talked about with the Player Advisory Council” “It was important for our Players Directors, it was important for our Board” “It’s important to me because this man, as the example says, has won more than 80 PGA Tour tournaments”.

Tiger Woods participates in his first professional tournament since his car accident in 2021, during the 2022 Masters. He made the cut and finished in 47th place with a score of 13 over par, 23 strokes behind the winner, the American Scottie Scheffler.

During the 2023 edition of the Masters, Tiger Woods was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to plantar fasciitis. Despite this major physical problem and the bad weather, Tiger Woods managed to make the cut (+3), his 23rd in a row, a historic record allowing him to equal the American Fred Couples and the South African Gary Player202, 203,204.

Due to bad weather, he only played seven holes during the third round205. On his Twitter account, Tiger Woods said: “I’m disappointed to have to give up playing this morning due to a further worsening of my plantar fasciitis. Thank you to the fans and the Masters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!”.
