A giant stingray weighing nearly 363kg, 2.4m wide and 4.3m long was recently caught on the Mae Klong River, Thailand.
The group struggled for 2 hours to catch the giant stingray
According to Daily Mail, a giant manta ray, weighing nearly 363kg, has become the largest freshwater fish ever caught with a fishing rod.
American conservationist Jeff Corwin caught it on the Mae Klong River in Thailand earlier this week.
It is known that the giant stingray is 2.4 meters wide and 4.3 meters long. It took 2 hours of struggling with the freshwater “monster” for Mr. Jeff and the Thai fishermen to pull it to shore. To even keep it, they had to take turns standing on the side of the boat holding the fishing rod.
According to Dr. Nantarika Chansue, a leading expert in ray research, this giant ray may be the largest freshwater fish caught with just a fishing rod and line that the world has ever recorded .
Experts use a tape measure to measure the size of the giant 363kg stingray
In addition, Mr. Rick Humphries, a member of Fishsiam fishing service company, also said that female stingrays are often larger and pregnancy is also one of the reasons why they get larger. Therefore, the case of this giant 363kg stingray is also among them.
The previous record belonged to Mr. Ian Welch, a British man. In 2009, he caught two giant manta rays weighing 268kg and 349kg on the same river.
