Admire the unique beauty of deformed frogs through a collection of artistic photos.
Combining his passion for both science and art, artist Brandon Ballengée from New York (USA) has created unique photos of deformed frogs.
The idea of this photo series started from Brandon’s research on the decline in the number of frogs caused by deformities. He dripped pigments onto the specimen, then used a high-resolution scanner to create individual images of the deformed frogs.
Brandon’s aim is to direct the viewer’s attention to the beauty of this creature’s internal structure, instead of focusing on the deformed body. That’s why in the photos, the frogs appear the same size as a toddler. This helps evoke feelings of closeness and sympathy from viewers.
Artist Brandon Ballengée named the series “Reliquaries” to express his appreciation for the short lives of these poor amphibians.
