David de Gea ‘in line for shock move to second division Spanish side’

David de Gea is being lined up for a shock move to the Spanish second division, according to reports.

The 33-year-old has been without a club since July after failing to agree a contract extension at Manchester United, despite winning the Golden Glove last season.

In recent weeks, de Gea has been linked with a sensational return to Old Trafford amid the struggles of the team’s new No 1 Andre Onana.

However, it now appears that he has set his sights on a return to Spain after reportedly meeting up with the club chiefs of a second division side.

According to MARCA, de Gea is considering a potential move to Eldense, who currently sit 11th in LaLiga Hypermotion.

The outlet claim that de Gea was in Alicante last week in order to meet with Eldense chiefs and discuss the club’s current project and vision.

However, the outlet also claim that de Gea’s interest could stem from an ownership perspective and that the Spaniard could potentially invest in the club.

The news comes shortly after Pascual Pérez, Eldense club president, expressed his intentions to sell his majority sharehold in the club.

A statement read: ‘After managing to rise from Tercera RFEF to LaLiga Hypermotion in just three seasons, Pascual Pérez will leave the presidency of his hometown club having achieved professional football, a goal that has not been achieved for 60 years’.

Eldense have had a meteoric rise over the last few years, having gone from a perennial fourth-tier side to, now, playing in Spain’s second division.

Despite their impressive rise, it would still come as a shock if the Premier League’s current Golden Glove holder secured a move to the LaLiga Hypermotion side.

The news comes shortly after reports claimed that Real Betis had held talks with de Gea over a potential return to LaLiga.

Eldes Marque reported that the former Atletico Madrid keeper has not only met with the LaLiga side but ‘would welcome’ joining the Seville-based outfit.

Meanwhile, some United fans have been calling for De Gea’s return to the club following his unceremonious exit last summer.

Last Tuesday, the Red Devils’ official account on X, formerly known as Twitter, took a moment to post a birthday message. In response a number of supporters called on the club to ‘bring him home’.

‘Miss Dave so much’, one said with heart emojis accompanying the message. Another supporter boldly claimed: ‘David de Gea, Sir Alex Ferguson’s greatest legacy’.

A fan referenced United’s current keeper Andre Onana, as they said: ‘Better than Andre Onana’.

De Gea is a legend at the club but previously refused to take the drastic pay cut on his £375,000-a-week wages after months of lengthy negotiations, however he has remained close with former colleagues.
