They play best friends in their new film The Very Good Girls.

And it seems that in real-life, new co-stars Dakota Fanning and Elizabeth Olsen have already become pals.

The two young stars were seen smiling on the set of their forthcoming drama in New York today.

Sitting on some steps on location in Brooklyn, the pair appeared to be getting along well.

The actresses are playing two New York City girls who make a pact to lose their virginity during their first summer out of high school.

But when they both fall for the same street artist, the friends find their connection tested for the first time.

The movie also stars actress Demi Moore and Peter Sarsgaard and is set to be released in 2013.

On the set today the two girls were also seen emerging from their trailers in full costume.

Dakota, 18, wore cuffed three-quarter length jeans, a short-sleeved peach shirt and some slip-on sandals.

The look was a far-cry more low-key and blander than the usually fashionable ensembles she is seen in whilst not working.

Earlier in the day she was seen in her more usual bohemian style as she arrived on set in a grey maxi skirt and long purple tank.

The brunette younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley had her hair both up and down and wore a collection of Seventies-style jewellery.

Elizabeth and Dakota are two of Hollywood’s brightest young stars and have recently been busy with several other projects.

As well as Very Good Girls, Dakota has also been cast in new coming-of-age thriller Furious Angel.

The film follows Lily, a 17 year old high-powered assassin who faces conflict from her adopted guardian when she wants to opt out of her life of violence.

In addition to her film projects she also has forthcoming promotional duties for Twilight.

Meanwhile Elizabeth has just finished filming her erotic thriller Therese in Budapest, Hungary.

The younger sister of twins Mary-Kate and Ashley was last month seen in full period dress for the bodice ripper, which is set in the 1860s.

Elizabeth is starring as the movies titular character Therese Raquin, who is married off and trapped in a loveless union with her sickly cousin Camille, who is played by Felton.

As a beautiful but sexually repressed young woman, her character cannot bear to remain innocent for long, and begins a torrid affair with her husband’s best friend Laurent.
