The Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 W04, the first race vehicle that helped Lewis Hamilton win many world titles, will be up for auction in November through RM Sotheby’s.

RM Sotheby’s will auction the above Mercedes in Las Vegas on November 17 before the Formula 1 (F1) race takes place in the city. This is Hamilton’s only ex-Mercedes for sale publicly as all other models are owned by the German racing team or team leader Toto Wolff.

Hamilton drove the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 W04 to the 2013 F1 World Championship and brought the team its first championship title by winning the Hungarian Grand Prix with the car.

With an estimated price of $10 million to $15 million, this car accompanied Hamilton through 14 rounds of the 2013 F1 season. According to Sotheby’s, the car helped the Mercedes-AMG team win second place in the Constructors’ Championship. Championship that year.

Although Hamilton did not win the world championship in 2013, this car represents the end of the era of 2.4-liter V8 models in F1 racing. The following season saw the transition to a car model that used two parallel sources of internal combustion and electric (hybrid) V6 engines and began the period of dominance of Mercedes-AMG and Hamilton thanks to the British driver winning six won the F1 World Championships in the following years.

Switching from McLaren to Mercedes-AMG for the 2013 season was considered a big gamble for Hamilton at the time. He signed for McLaren as a kid, participated in his first F1 season with the British team in 2007 and won his first World Championship the following year.

During his six seasons with the McLaren team, he also finished in second place in his first year and won a total of 21 times. Having only returned to the sport in 2010 after a 55-year absence, Mercedes-AMG achieved little in the three seasons before signing Hamilton.

This car helped turn the team around in 2013. From 2014 to 2021, Hamilton and Mercedes-AMG dominated the sport in a way not seen since the days of Michael Schumacher and Ferrari.

Shelby Myers, global director of private sales at RM Sotheby’s, said Hamilton’s success with Mercedes-AMG is similar to Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots and Lionel Messi and Argentine team.

In the statement, he added “the combination of Lewis and W04 has raised the bar for the car. Many people really want to own this car in the near future.”
