In the video, Lisa performs almost all the steps to cook khao jiao, a famous dish in Thailand that she loves very much. This is a white rice dish, served with fried eggs filled with shrimp. She cleans the shrimp herself, chops it, cracks eggs, whips them and fries them over high heat so the eggs are crispy on the outside but still soft and moist on the inside. Finally, Lisa sprinkled on Thai standard spicy chili fish sauce, served with steamed white rice cooked ‘properly’.
Immediately after the video aired, the dish was constantly mentioned on platforms from Instagram, X (Twitter), Youtube, Tiktok and appeared on many famous Thai television channels such as Channel8, creating a cooking trend. and enjoy like Lisa. Even the sales of the khao jiao shop have been ‘good’ ever since.
According to Thaipost , a restaurant selling shrimp fried egg rice named Songkrueng, located in Mor Din Daeng market, near Khon Kaen University, immediately exploded in sales after the video became viral. Diners lined up in long lines, of all ages and subjects, even buying in large quantities.
Ms. Nuchanat Onnaichat, 47 years old, the shop owner, said there were more people coming to the shop than usual. ‘Customers have lined up as long as ever since the restaurant opened. I think this trend is thanks to Lisa’s charisma. Previously, the restaurant only sold 5-6 trays of eggs a day and only needed one person to cook. But with the current situation, I have to hire more helpers and import a lot of ingredients to serve customers,’ she said.
Among the diners who come to the restaurant, most are students – Lisa’s main fans. The shop currently has 10 types and 20 toppings for customers to choose from. The owner plans to prepare more dishes for a rich menu. Mrs. Nuchanat also invited Lisa to the restaurant to enjoy it because she believed that the quality would conquer her.
Not only Nuchanat’s restaurant, many other khao jiao restaurants are also booming, including both dine-in and take-out orders. This is not the first time Lisa has introduced her country’s cuisine to the world. Som tam mamuang mango salad or meatballs at Buriram train station were also ‘sold out’ thanks to the Thai female idol mentioning it in interviews and on her personal page.
Also in the video celebrating one billion views of the song ‘Money’, Lisa also made another dish, itim khanom pang – coconut cream sandwich and sticky rice. She said she always eats this dish when she comes home to visit her grandparents.
This dish is very cheap, only about 10 baht (about 7,000 VND) and is very popular in popular markets in Thailand. The seemingly unrelated combination of ingredients creates this dish’s unique flavor. Soft, fragrant bread, sticky sticky rice, sweet and fatty coconut cream, a little grated coconut, and roasted peanuts.
