Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has shared the tough punishment he recently had to go through at the training ground.
Nicolas Jackson, 22, has had a pretty hectic start to the first few months of his Chelsea career.
The young striker now has a decent return of seven goals in 14 games across all competitions, including a hat-trick against Tottenham before the international break.
In addition, he’s got seven yellow cards to his name already in the Premier League. It caused him to miss a game against Fulham last month through suspension.
Punishment time
The Telegraph explained that Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino said he would punish Jackson for his ill-discipline earlier in the season. The £32million centre-forward (The Guardian) thinks he’s now served that sentence with some extra running drills at Cobham.
“One day, I was running and I didn’t know why,” Jackson told The Telegraph. “Maybe that was it. I was dead that day, I think that was my punishment. They just called me out to run. I said ‘why, what happened’, but I just had to run. It was laps, really hard, the intensity, then I was lying down when I finished. I think it was that.
“The coach spoke to me and told me to be careful. When you show a card, you get a yellow card. That was the main thing. I’m planning to change that.”
Nicolas Jackson learning on the job
There’s a lot of pressure from within the fanbase for Jackson to fire this season, which is perhaps a tad unfair when you consider his age and he’s now to the league. He’s certainly giving it a fair crack so far, though.
He’s got competition from Armando Broja right now for the No 9 position, but we feel he’s done enough in recent games to get more opportunities in the XI.
Pochettino shared via Football.London this afternoon that Christopher Nkunku remains unavailable through injury versus Newcastle. However, highly-rated attacker Christopher Nkunku has been training with the group and is closer to a return than Romeo Lavia.
We feel like Jackson’s got to continue this purple patch of form in front of goal to keep his starting position. Hopefully, the extra competition is a good thing for the exciting young frontman.
